Re: 90 degree angle comb building?

If it was mine I'd move it to another yard and rotate the box 90 degrees. Sometimes a colony is oriented to build N-S or E-W. Just recognize when this happens and go with it.

    Re: Super placement?

Don't do it Mike. Whatever box the queen is in will fill up. And if you don't have a flow going, she'll just stop. It does fill the new box faster but at the cost of complete/total disruption of...

Re: Hive swarmed 3 times in a week

You need to make sure the hive is queenright. Sometimes after a swarm there are problems and the appearance of a lot of drones might mean laying workers.

  6. Re: questions about expanding into a commerial beekeeper

You need advice from someone who knows. Where is Dr. James Tew? Ohio? Get a PhD in entomology and you can always teach. Don't become a honey store. Find out what Langstroth missed.

Re: What's wrong with this drone?

It's not where I thought it was. So I thought I'd better get back and finish the exception before someone else did. DWV is caused by varroa mites. If you have this problem, they lay three or four...

    Re: Best Way To Combine?

If the place you want them is the closest box to where they are now, just make it big enough and then shake them out. Of course you don't shake it. It's just an expression. use a brush. as they...
  10. Poll: Re: Of those using foundationless, how many draw straight?

Store bought frames have a groove cut for foundation. I glue two popsickle sticks in there. This keeps 'em away from the sides and gives me an excuse to eat ice cream. a couple years ago I tried...

" What do I use for candy in the one end?"

If you know a baker ask him about Fondant. If not use marshmallows. There are lots of instructions on the web about making your own queen cages.

    Re: Virgins and cell builders

Had a call a couple years ago to five swarms at one time. Huge hive. The owner wanted to live with the hive in his attic. Looks to me like you caught them just before the swarm.

Kind of... You gotta really confuse em with lots of hive smells or they'll fight. Soo just enough to make one hive, I'd keep em separate for a day or two till the queen smell has dissipated.
