Thanx so much. Will proceed as normal.
I bought a nuc 3 weeks ago. I went to open and inspect today, and noticed about a dozen Drones, (not all at once), coming out of the hive. Then they started flying back to the hive. Very, very...
As per my previous post, my hive swarmed or deserted their post at the beginning of the year.
My set-up is as follows: 2 Deeps and 1 Shallow.
I just installed a new Nuc into the bottom Deep,...
Unforunatly, not alot of rain. Just real cold. Hive is placed on cinder blocks, 8" off the ground. The frames that had the "head in first" bees were about 3 in total. In small clusters, like you...
Our temps this year were pretty cold. In the 10's at night for weeks at a time. Could the bees have starved when the whole frame (and whole medium) was full of capped honey? Am I safe to keep the...

Not sure what forum to post this in. I lost my hive occupance in December. Hive was strong and healthy in November, and in January, empty. Here are some pics of a...
Good mourning. I came on here today to ask a question about my dead hive,,, and here is the answer I was seeking. It has been in the teens to low twentys at night for about a month. The days have...
I am in Shasta County. Have 1 hive to start this first year. The hive consists of 2 deeps and 1 medium. We left the honey alone to see how they winter out. The upper deep and the medium are full...
These ants are so small. and there isn't alot at a time, the bees don't seem to notice them. They ants alomst seem to be wanders.
The ants that I am having a problem with are very, very small black ants. Maybe "grease" ants? They don't seem to be a masive invasion, but are so very tiny, and they are traveling up into the...
Mike, where in CA are ya? I'm looking for a mentor if anyone is close by.
We are covered in smoke and ash from many, many wildfires in Northern California. Visability is sometimes as low as 2 miles. How does this effect my bees? Is it not a good time to open and service...
I will try the trap idea. They appear to be meat bees. They don't seem to be bothering anyone yet. They keep landing on the ground below the hive and walk around. Thanx again for all the input.
Thanx for the quick reply. I will close the entrance in the morning, since they are bearding on the porch right now.

I check my hive this evening, and saw about 10 of these wasps flying around the outside. They don't seem to be bothering anyone, and no one is bothering them. They look like a yellow...
First year beek here. Hopfully someone has a quick answer for me. I am running 2 deeps and a medium on one hive. While checking it yesterday, I had very, very much honey filled comb attached...
R.I.P., baby girl.
We encourage wasps to live in our out buildings,, as long as they don't get mean. They are great natural pest controlers in the garden and they don't compete for food with our bees.
I found this in a box of old beekeeping goodies. Any idea what it might be? Thanx

Thanx for the info. I won't panic any more,,, yet. I will build more frames and slip a new box between the brood box and medium super.
As far as the bearding, they stay out at night in a tight...
I started a new hive April 1st. Everything looked wonderful and as expected on my inspections. Last week, I noticed bearding around the entrance. Upon inspection, I noticed all 10 frames were drawn...
