Once the swarming impulse is strong, its a hard if not impossible thing to stop. Johng is correct above. Work on opening the brood nest for #3 and catching the swarms you can....Do you have bait...
Ben, while you are waiting for the inspector, you might appreciate this video on foul brood. :)
Chas, you seem to have a gift for photography! :)
No, is that a hard thing to do? I have a digital 'camera' that fits in one eye piece, but it isn't working at magnification less than 100X and haven't tried it above that. :)
Racer, give me a call. I live 35 miles SW of you. I am sure we can get you started. I'm thinking of a NUC box to start. I have several available. Even have a swarm in a bait box I haven't...
Well done Minne :)
Help him clean the trailer, and by doing so show him there is not real danger. :)
Exceptional, and interesting photographs. :)
I was looking at the hairs on one of my bees through a microscope. Those hairs look a lot like feathers under magnification. :)
Thanks for that tip! :)
You will find a wealth of information about catching swarms on youtube. My favorites ore by JPthebeeman. :)
I would say they are drone cells, but the vaseline on your lense makes it a hard call. ;)
Drone cells.
David, Please consider making your own thread sharing the details of your treatments -recipes too. I'm sure I'm not the only one who would read it carefully. May I suggest you share links that have...
I support you in this endeavor. :applause:
The world needs more people who recognize the sacrifice soldiers, sailors, Marines, Airmen and Coasties make and have made to serve. I'm not talking...
Worth mentioning! :)
In addition to good air circulation, you need a good water source as near as possible to the hive. Its the evaporation of water that actually cools the hive. HTH :)
Screened bottom boards give...
My guess is that the bees still have a strong swarm impulse, and the split was not effective in eliminating that impulse. They swarm but have no queen to join them, so they go back into the hive. ...
FWIW, I have placed queen cells in a mayonnaise jar with a paper towel and a few drops of water to keep humidity up -jar top had holes for air. I put that jar on top of my satellite box and it kept...
Lauri, can you show us a picture of the tool you use to make those circular areas bare? I assume some kind of knife....? I made some similar cuts this week but they were not as clean as those. I'd...
I don't disagree with you, except to say there really isn't an empty, and the cans always dribble around the area -at my house anyway. Can't tell you how many times my kids have taken a couple...
Can you take a picture and post it here? When you say 'little black specks', it makes me think of larva feces. Have you seen any small hive beetle or moth larva in the hive? Varroa mites look like...
Bees will find any sweet crumbs available. Put empty coke cans in a sealed container or they could find them while the guests are still there. :)
Right on with this comment jrbbees! Be careful shaking a frame of bees you want the bees to use to make a new queen. :)
If you are wanting the bees to make a queen, read about making queens...
Yes, you can add a frame of adhereing bees from one hive to another. They are docile and keep right on working. We all do it, just don't trade frames from a sick hive. :)
Nice queen cells! You will find the Weavers are willing to help. Give them a call after you are sure there are no eggs in there. :)
