I winter my bees in 3 deep set up. You can go to micheal bushes site again and look up unlimited broodnest management. In the spring the bottom deep will be almost always empty. I reverse it when...

Re: Not sure if I should split

If your not sure if you should split then I would recommend no. Granted you can still make up wintering nucs at this point. I would recommend watching Micheal Palmers utube vids on wintering nucs...

    Re: bees all gone

You can try putting a queen excluder under the bottom box and on on the bottom board to keep the queen in. This sometomes helps hold them in place for next time.

    Re: Leaving enough honey

Also remember guys some people use 8,9,10, and 11 frame spacing so the amount is gonna vary quite abit. Average deep frame with 10 frame spacing is prolly around 7-8 pounds.

  10. Re: Are eyelets a must for wiring frames?

I use a cheap paper stapler from walmart. A box of 1000 staples is less than a dollar. I wire any where from 500 to 1500 frames a year with a modified 5 horizontal wire set up. You can do 5 x's...

  17. Re: The 'queen excluder' synonymous with a 'honey excluder!'

I use 3 deeps w/o excluders. Queen excluders are great for queen rearing purposes. I avoid them for the most part for production colonies.
