Re: 2 4-frame nuc box on 10 frame for honey

Yep, what he said. just take the frames out and put them into a nuc box to carry. heck use a cardboard nuc to be even lighter

I use the same kind on my langs... i put the feeder right on the frames in the top box.. throw a hive body over the top of it to cover and no problem.

    Re: Chicken feeder for bees

^^ I have the same one. I put small rocks in the channel to keep them from drowning. a single piece of porous foam would be more convenient but didnt feed much this year so i didnt bother

Re: New swrm in a top bar

never understood the idea of locking a queen in. if it is a virgin then you're not letting her out to do a mating flight.

Re: Full hive, some problems.. where to begin?

Run it full open.. they will use what they want and ignore the rest until needed. That is how they do any other cavity they use.. trees, walls, ceilings. etc

    Definitely harvest some honey.....

why are you feeding so late? are you not taking anything this year? it will likely be all syrup and not really honey.

also, feed directly in your hives and not feed everyone else. way...

    Re: Combining for Honey Production

you could just take the smaller hives queen and make a nuc with 2-3 frames and use it to split the hive later on. Maybe since i only have a few hives queens aren't as easy to come by.

that is what i was thinking.. then i was looking and she was acting like she was laying.. maybe they go through the motions even though they aren't mated yet.

Re: How would you inspect this hive

+1 i think slatted racks do more for ventilation than screens. gives them extra space but lets them control the air flow. I stick my head over my hives and then sound like an AC unit humming.

    Re: Swapping queens..

Well, the old hive still hasn't made a new queen. I put in a frame of eggs today from another hive but got to thinking. Is a may 10th swarm too young to make a new queen?
