Hi all, I noticed my hive was getting a little eaten up with termites a few weeks ago, so I ordered new equipment and moved em over to it today. It occurs to me to ask, How long do hive bodies and...

Hi all,
I have one hive, am a novice beekeeper, and I have a question.
I am in southern La (super mild winter) and this is the hive's first winter. I left an unfinished super of honey on the...
Rookie keeper here too one hive and it has been suprising. I had a package in one deep and added a second that they seemed to have no interest in. Then all the sudden they drew it out and filled it...
Hi
I would think that you should examine what you are interested in, and then act accordingly...
1. If you are interested in brood-rearing temperature... place your thermocouple in the brood...
Cool Thanks MB-
Yeah I was reading the books and they talk about the temperatures being the limiting factors on the bee activity... I think here locally we have "bee season" 9-10 months out of the...
"Putiing "Wet" supers is a great stimulator for the bees"

Hi all, I put on a second deep brood super three weeks ago, and went back today for a look-see and WOW they had drawn all that comb out and packed it full of honey with the middle frames being about...
According to a "bee dude" out at Louisiana State University the answer is "No". They are always awake and rarely still for any pereptible periods. Even during winter they shivver.
...
Well I am just a bit more careful and slower now. I just inspected after a two week wait while they (hopefully) started drawing out that comb in the top super. They have and are putting up honey...
"Any hive will react to human breath. You could have blew on them right after you installed them and they would react the way they are reacting now."
Not so, I used to move them around on the comb...
Hi
I have a hive about 6 weeks old (from package) that has 9 full frames of drawn comb and a fresh medium super (total of two) of foundation for brood. What I am remarking on is the change from...
"Its amazing how thick the forest is. And it changes too!"
Hmmm, what exactly do you mean with this? I am unfamiliar with your allusion!

Hi All, I wanted to get your opinion on using a Hive lid with a vent/top entrance. I have been considering it b/c I had a big beard recently on a hot day, that all went back inside once I propped...
Small time beekeeper here... I find that if I have time to move slowly and deliberately, they dont bother me at all.
On the other hand if I am moving quickly or in a hurry, well I am going to...
I just found these boards today, and had the misfortune to run across this thread.
I see this thread or its close cousin on every board I go to (alot of em), about a million different subjects.

Amen to the brad nailer. Inexpensive and saves lots of thumb banging. BUT, buy short enough brads... I have bradded my hand before and its amazing it doesnt hurt till you try to move it.
