I will also be a first timer with a top bar. But I can fail 4 or 5 times for the price of a lang setup and a package of bees.
Hallsville here Butch.
I understand the German government has admitted to it. There excuse has that it skewed radar, so in essence they said it was for security.
Very interesting Jim! You must be replacing queens frequently or you grow every year. I am every bit a newbie by the way, as if it wasn't obvious. Very interested in process.
Are you saying leave a 1/4 to 1/2 space in front of first bar, and with the led on how would the access that space. If you prop up lid won't that make it difficult to control temp. Very much a...
With end entrances is there common distance from the end board for the first top bar, or will the first bar be sufficient.
I REALLY enjoy this learning curve!! Thanks for the help, I will probably become a nuisance before long. Actually getting ready to post a question in the top bar hive forum.
Stan, at what location in your 48" hive to you have your #8 screen and how is attached??
Seeing as how I just built my first hive today, a TBH, this is a a silly time to ask. My understanding is that "bee space"s a critical measurement, with that in mind why is it that langs have what...
bigd, great to know there is help close by. I have NO notes, this will be my first year. Just came in from building my first hive. Some blood was shed but it was well worth it. It is a top bar hive,...
Drone mother??? Please explain, I thought queens laid what was needed.
What do you do with these extra queens you have around and how are they kept?
Yes,PCM I am actually north of Columbia myself. I was raised in Rolla, my family is still there. Having my mom's 70th birthday there next weekend. I am going to build hives, not worrying about nucs....
I use sevin dust, has worked every time. I assumed it was mites.
Well when you have spent as much time re inventing the wheel and can get confusing. Basically I am a poor boy, really can't afford to drop 70 or 80 for a nuc when I build new hives, would like to...
Getting ready to start building my TB's now that I have re-invented the wheel.lol Another question though, what should the ratio of hives to nucs should I build. I will grow as I gather funds for...
Love to see how the spacer bar works, any pics out there??
Well, seeing as how the lang has 19" top bars that would make the 30 gallon barrel a possibility to add a honey super to the top. I will have to try that at some point. Got a gift certificate to Home...
Out of curiosity how wide is langstrough bar??
Don't know anything about Langs, can't spell it.
Mac
I concur. Thanks for the responses.
Mac
Almost positive they are 30 gallon, I will check again tomorrow. I put a tape measure on it today, dia was a little over 19 inches, outside to outside. Also appeared to be about 28 inches overall in...
Lets not forget the occasional mutation
These barrels are thick plastic off white, semi opaque. I think it will still need a coat of paint. I have access to numerous barrels. And over time many barrels.
