    This is what I have done,Somewhere on her site are the full plans.

    I do put a spacer between the quilt box and the hive so I can put sugar blocks in.

    I did Lauri's sugar block recipe and the bees loved them,I even put winter patties right next to the blocks and most of the patties were still there in the spring.

    The prices around here are all over the place,From $3 to $10 a pound. I'm thinking $5-$6 myself which my be still too low.

    I also would guess smell,My wife just caught her first sting and this is her second year of beekeeping,And I think the only reason was because she was standing next to my mentor and the bees wanted...

    I am 51 and my body is failing me(arthritis) ,My mentor is 70 with bad lungs and can run circles around me with no sign of slowing down.

    I have seen $15 to $20 per frame, But like others have said,try to get in good with some local beeks and you may never have to pay again other than paying it forward.

    Same as everyone else, I paint it on or rub it on.

    I have a small crock pot that i melt wax in,$3 at a second hand store.

    I wear gloves,not so much because of being stung but because my hands peel and crack whenever I'm outside.
    I wear a veil 90% of the time except when I'm checking hives in the winter.

    The only one out of 12 hives,I even added an extra deep also but no change.

    No problem with them in the hives,even have a bee tree that is a Box Elder that has alot of the bugs and the bees do not care.

    Now Box Elder bugs in my house is a different problem:(
