    Re: sugar board question

Not sure about syurp but when I have added honey to sugar it didn't want to harden up. Just kind of doughy. Depends on what your going after.

Rookie, I did the same with a couple of nucs here last weekend after checking the others to make sure I had queens. Hate to pinch queens, especially young ones if it not there fault if I can use...

    Re: Molasses-like honey from what?

Poplar honey can range from dark red to almost black. I have some this year I would swear it looks like burnt molasses. It's my personal favorite.

    Re: Neighbors destroying colonies

Your an awesome guy. I would have ripped that one board off and videoed that dude. Have they not even mentioned the bees to you?

Nah, that is a staged video, no one is that calm.

In case it gets exposed to treatments that may compromise the honey.

    Re: Moving a bee swarm

I have had my best luck by giving them a frame of brood and moving a few miles for a week or so. I'm 50\50 on the last two I hived here at home.

Re: Kentucky Bloom season, when to feed?

Sourwood blooming but the rain has slowed the bees down. Same with the clover.
  13. Re: Do bees know which plants have alread be checked by other bees?

I read a study back in the winter in which they were looking at the static charge created by the pollinators and the ability to sense it.

It was this NPR report o a study...

Re: am I a strange breed?

I don't really care at all for the flavor, we may eat a pint a year. But I don't like extracting and I hate the marketing. I much rather play with the bees. I have maxed out my little setup but not...

Re: am I a strange breed?

Location and weather has alot to do with it. My first year I fed aout 75 lbs of sugar to six hives. I thought that was a crazy amount. Those six packages pulled two deeps each and an average of...
  17. Re: Bees seem to be taking a LOT of sugar syrup...How much is too much?

Here coms the art part, I say keep it coming but if they begin filling the brood nest they will begin swarm mode. Once a day will probably be enough but you will need to check their progress and...

    Re: Can I rearrange frames?

I have always had good luck placing in between brood to get them pulled out. Usually only one at a time. And usually raising one frame of brood upwards to bait them, but only during warm weather.

Re: Pressure treated for hive stands

It will take a coating better this fall after it has dried out somewhat. But it is better to do it before you place bees there. The Thompsons is a waste of time imho.
