    Bees not storing honey!!

I added supers to my hives in late July. As of last week, several have not filled the supers with any comb or honey. The supers look the same as if they were added yesterday.

    The hives appear...

  3. Re: Dead and dying bees on the ground?

I agree with the above comments. Also, if bees cannot fly due to weather, they will clean house.
  4. Re: Third Year Beekeeping kicks off today

Those ingredients you sprayed sound like a tasty salad dressing! Minus the Honey B. I plan on setting mine in this afternoon.
  5. Re: keeping a package in the house for 2 days?

    I think I see the sun...:pk:
  6. Re: Third Year Beekeeping kicks off today

Sounds like you are doing well. I am in my third year also. Mine are sitting in the garage until the weather improves. I sprayed them with sugar water to give them a boost.

  8. Re: Apple and cranberry pollination fees - Wisconsin.

    Re: Stings on Rental Property

A sting sure would wreck a vacation. I would wonder what kind of clients you are catering too? Outdoors type, or city. Who would really want to vacation with hives of bees?

    Too risky IMO.
  11. Re: How to level a hive and foundationless

I use shims. Synthetic ones that will not rot. Also, pitch it a little for rainwater drainage.
  12. Re: BeeWeaver is now accepting orders for package bees, April 2013

    Re: Black paint

Paint them brown, just like a tree trunk. Or Army green, man do they blend in against the bushes and trees. Mine are colored both, and the brown was in pretty much full sun most of the day.
  14. Re: 2 LBS or 3 LBS for Packaged Bees?

I bet we are getting ours from the same place. I order 2# Early/mid April. So far they have worked out fine. Why spend the extra money...difference is about $30, right? If there was such an...
  15. Re: Two hives for sale - Is this a good situation/deal?

Sounds like you made a good move.
  16. Re: Vandals sprayed RAID...can I salvage comb or equipment?

I swapped out boxes. I could see a film on the deeps. I did not see many dead bees. Most likely done by someone with limited knowledge of beehives.
  17. Re: Vandals sprayed RAID...can I salvage comb or equipment?

Well the can was empty, did file a report. They are not going to waste time on this...I will say it looks like the front porch got the worst of it. I looked in there in the evening and they were...
  18. Vandals sprayed RAID...can I salvage comb or equipment?

Some creeps tore apart one of my hives and sprayed RAID in it. Bees are still there, some dead ones out front. I hope they make it, as they are still clustering. But will the RAID contaminate the...
  19. Re: Why won't they re-queen? Or do I have to do it?

looks like the queen was accepted!
  20. Re: Why won't they re-queen? Or do I have to do it?

Added the new queen, an Italian one. Found the old queen in less than a minute! Upon investigation, found the the bottom deep was not fully drawn out either. I hope this new queen will help them...
  21. Re: Why won't they re-queen? Or do I have to do it?

    Re: Foundationless woes

As far as the drone comb, take the advice...
  23. Re: Why won't they re-queen? Or do I have to do it?

I ordered a new queen. I am going to pinch the existing queen and introduce the new one same as a package.

    Any advice appreciated.
  24. Re: Why won't they re-queen? Or do I have to do it?

They will...but they never "took off" before the dearth.
  25. Why won't they re-queen? Or do I have to do it?

I have a Carni hive with a lazy queen. So far only one 8 frame deep is filled, and they have been working on the second. I know the weather has been bad, but all my other Carni hives are doing...
