    Re: Langstroth hive wood thickness

Another thing to consider besides strength might be stability for stacks of supers or in windy conditions. The thicker dimensions will give you better box to box contact for stability.

Re: Which size hives are most productive?

I agree there are too many parameters. I have both 8 and 10 frame hives...my personal experience is that often the outside frames on the 10 configuration aren't fully used. Based on that and the...

Drone cells in the Fl Panhandle

It was a nice day yesterday, went in to inspect hives and make some preps for spring build up. I was disappointed to find one of my hives full of only drone brood...they almost made it through to...

    Re: Painting Bee Hives?

My bees navigate to their hives based on the paint color that was on the "oops" table at the local big box store. I also have some (cypress) boxes that have gone unpainted (mostly when the paint...

    Re: Hello everybody

Welcome from the Florida Panhandle. I'd make the suggestion to go with two hives of the same type just for ease of transferring frames if the need arises. Good Luck.

Re: IBC Tote for honey storage?

Good point about the heat...I usually do most of my bottling in Aug/Sep and heat here in Florida is not a concern. But, storing it for bottling latter may be an issue.

    IBC Tote for honey storage?

  19. Re: Who puts swarm traps in or near their apiary in case thier own hives swarm?

Last year they built up faster than expected. I put up three traps in my bee yard and caught 4 swarms in those traps. I call it doing splits the hard way. So, I wasn't a great beekeeper last...
  20. Re: would it be a good place to put a swarm trap?

Somewhere in the same general area would be fine. The bees in your uncles rafters probably issue forth from someone's bee yard, it is possible there will be another swarm from the same source.
