    Re: paraffin wax dipping hives

Fwiw I was recently informed that beeswax isn't water permeable but other waxes are. I don't think this matters when dipping/boiling???

Re: Trade wax for pine tree resin anyone?

I'd like to get 100 pounds but I don't have to have it all from a single source.

Re: New package - treat or not?

If I were in your shoes I'd treat after the package gets settled as others have stated. Once done my priority would be to make a few queens/nucs.
I don't think the Queens that come with packages...

Trade wax for pine tree resin anyone?

As the title suggests. I am looking to dip wood this year and need wax. I can provide pine tree resin if anyone may have wax to trade.
    Thanks

Re: Theory behind Lemon Grass oil.

I dunno, the LGO I've purchased smells pretty loud. It isn't strong per se but it is extremely fragrant and abundant. I don't have to coax the aroma at all and this goes for the three separate...

Re: Do Winter Drones Mean My Queen Died?

Iv'e had a few laying worker hives and the drones all looked as large as those from normal drone cells. The worker size comb had really large cappings so that's where the extra room came from....

    Re: Bottling honey

I am scrupulous about the cleanliness of the 3.125 million honey jars I use each year. I triple wash them by hand, one by one. First in a saturated saline solution, then in a vat of pure and clean...

Re: Do Winter Drones Mean My Queen Died?

Hmmm. Interesting. Bees are all "adults" when they emerge. I've never seen a worker size drone???

Re: Feeding Syrup in Communal Feeders

I think like a lot of claims about beekeeping (some plausible, some emotional, some based on science and others based on who knows what) the claim of the spread of disease may not have scientific...

Re: mid winter OAV in the south.....numbers

I am curious why there is so many using OA instead of formic? I make my own formic treatment from meat pads and it is cheap as dirt. It is a one and done treatment with the formic penetrating the...

Re: Feeding Syrup in Communal Feeders

I was a proponent of open feeding until this year. I have open fed for several years and this year I got what so many warned me about. I was feeding in the fall and the syrup was over 100 yards away...

Re: Dipping and titebond (or any/most?) glue

I emailed titebond and the response was as most stated here. The boxes need to be glued first or there will be minimum adhesion. They didn't say anything about the glue being compromised due to...

Dipping and titebond (or any/most?) glue

I am getting ready to dip some hives. I was entertaining the idea of dipping the pieces prior to assembly because this would make the vessel requirements much smaller. The main concern I had was glue...

    Diy rosin collections anyone?

I've been collecting pine tree rosin for dipping wooden ware. I'm wondering if others do this and, if so, how they clean or process it. I have a lot of bark in mine and burning it doesn't melt the...

Re: My wax dipping tank setup

I can't agree on the economics of spending that kind of coin for dipping wooden ware but if you are happy that's all that matters. Spending $4k+ on dipping...

These are bees not girls. I know it is no big deal what people call the bees BUT you did mention you didn't want to be hard on them.
In such as case you could just feed them homemade nectar and...
