    Re: Scent Lines For Swarms?

other forms of trapping don't envolve the targer animal sending out hundreds of scouts looking for exactly what you are providing, I think it would just confuse them.

I cant speak for Michael, but I think he was referring to frames of clustering bees. If your cluster takes up 20 frames that is a huge cluster. My problem with this nugget of info is, in...

  4. Re: How do you attach styrofoam to your hives?

I didn't use any foam last winter, this yr I just placed a piece on my flat plywood migratory style cover and stuck a brick on it. We hit -25 this winter and so far so good.

    Re: feeder

cut a board just wide enough that when placed in it it leaves about a 1/2 in gap to the floor. Cut two holes for mason jars. trim your follower board so it's got about a 1/2 in gap at the bottom of...
  8. Re: Video of inspection and using Outside Frames to help prevent Swarming.

if you are still not sure or confident about finding the queen, shake off all the bees from brood then lay down a queen excluder and place them over it. Nurse bees will move up and then you can...

Re: Best Way To Expand In Year Two?

heed this advice, I turned a nuc a package and a swarm into 8 colonies my first yr......lost every one of them when the fall flow didn't happen and I didn't notice utill too late.
  12. Re: Need advice: Nucs have deep frames, I don't

cheapest and easiest way is to build a 3 in shim and place it under a med box when the queen moves up place an excluder under it and once everything has hatched out pull the bottom box and shake them...
  13. Re: How much time do I have - Doing cutout

It all depends on timing and the need for room. I have added boxes and checked back on them in a week and they were almost fully drawn, and I have added boxes where noting happened for several...

  15. Re: How much time do I have - Doing cutout

my first one took the better part of an entire day with no issues. This should be simple as the foraging bees should return to the lang even easier would be to super a lang with foundation and let...
  16. Re: Making nucs with Pseudo strips until having a queen

OH EM GEE ! I never thought about using them for trapouts! Someone posted last yr about increasing the success of getting the queen by using a caged junk queen in a cleo Hogan setup.

Re: Deer? Vandals? We shall see.

if it's kids, turn it into an education they are probably testing their fears, I wacked a few hornets nests with a stick when I was a kid just because my friends didn't think I was brave enough. ...
  19. Re: I need some pointers on foundationless frames

you can absolutely do it without foundation............now with that said you can ALMOST absolutely guarantee that you will have to cut comb and place back into frames,............... so much easier...

Re: Do Queens lay multiple eggs per cell?

I have asked this question before and the response I got from the more experienced beeks was if it's 2-3 in the bottom of a cell it's an excited new queen with little room to lay. If it 3-7 on the...
