    Re: hair roller cage

The hair roller cage is for the nicot system. They do not fit JZ-BZ, I wish they did... I just use JZ-BZ cell protectors. You just have to make sure that you get the Queens into their mating...

    Re: Winter Losses or Success?

I had 18 hives in my home yard going into winter. 6 of them were 5 frame nucleus hives, 2 were strong 8 frame double-deeps, 3 were 8 frame single-deeps, and 7 were Kenyan top bar hives. I lost all...

Take a look at the link that Rader posted. If you buy 1000, the price drops to 4 cents each.

That's $35 for 100, or you can spend $40 for 1000. Quite a price break!
  6. Re: Acorn Beekeeping Equipment Still in Business?

I got my order a couple of weeks ago. Nick appears to be a busy guy. I would stay after him. He'll fix you up.
  7. Re: My homemade extractor - 4 frame radial for about $60

Obviously the wooden frames are not a problem for splinters. Why would a wooden part in the extractor be any worse?

Nice piece of workmanship and ingenuity!

Poll: Re: Do you Build or Buy your Hive Bodies?

You cannot put the foam toward the bees; they will eat it.
You cannot put the foam on the exterior; it will deteriorate.
So you are left making a sandwich. Now if you are using pallets, then you...

    I use a 3/4" dado.

Get a gallon of tite bond 3, and fill a tray with it (try cheap containers from the dollar store). Immerse the end of your board in the glue just deep enough to coat all...

Re: Good source for foundationless guides

I use cheap craft sticks, and then straddle each stick with one narrow crown staple. Strong, cheap, and quick.

Re: Mann Lake rep here on BSource?

    Is the heater a Chromalox?
Do you have the 110v or 220v model?
The Chromalox are a higher end heater, but they all fail in time, especially in tap water.

    Re: Following board size

Don't over complicate it. Just place the first top bar 3/8" from the front for your entrance (I nailed little shims in the end of my hives to keep the first bar set back).
    For the follower board,...

A gear pump is a positive displacement pump. The only way to throttle it down is to slow it down, or add a bypass. Putting a ball valve in-line is a bad idea on a gear pump.

Re: speed controller for a 1/2 hp Dayton ???

It's not an extractor, but I do this every day at work. One of the systems here texts my phone every batch it completes with all the relevant data, so I know what is going on. Pretty cool :D
