    Re: Why is this happening?

Have you actually looked in the trap? Some swarms are large enough to pack a full deep. Dont sit around gaping, get them in a hive!
  3. Re: is it normal for bees to be clogIging the opening at night.

If your swarm literally filled two ten frame deeps and you have added 3 gallons of syrup in twelve days, at least add a super so they dont fill up your deeps and restrict your queens laying. They...

  8. Re: Number of nurse bees needed for one queen cell

Kind of hard to follow what your saying. How do you know how many laying workers? You say there is no more open brood but then you say you can find eggs. ??? Eggs are open brood. If you have eggs and...

    Re: Curious

Newspaper combine. I did the same for ferals and Italians. Spray paper with sugar syrup, they will do great.
  12. Re: Catch them today, and they leave the next day.

Huntingstoneboy has it, I have never had one leave brood.

Re: Found a swarm today !!

I would take Tanks advice, feed all they can take and if the younger queen mates and all looks well you have a split. If not, pinch her and combine.

Re: Found a swarm today !!

Odds are, if you recognize the queen, the hive that threw the swarm already has a new queen. you will have to pinch one of them to combine.
  15. Re: Prosperous Beehive Absconds? Leaves Behind Weird Brown Dust.

Definitely wax moth, thought I saw webbing rolled in the debris. Had a strong hive abscond this year for the same reason. And it wasn't completely infested. Freeze them or you will lose them.
  16. Re: Prosperous Beehive Absconds? Leaves Behind Weird Brown Dust.

What does your comb look like. "dust" appears to be mainly cappings and hive debris. Make sure you don't hive wax moth larvae or shb in combs.

  18. Re: land owner wants me to place hives right under electric high tension wires

I have no doubts of that, I've seen a fluorescent bulb light up within 5 feet of one. The entire planet is charged with a magnetic field, nothing in the article above advises against putting hives...
  19. Re: land owner wants me to place hives right under electric high tension wires

Are you kidding me? This time of year I'm wondering if they're going to mow my hunting lease, all power lines. do you wear your tinfoil hat when you drive under them?

  22. Re: land owner wants me to place hives right under electric high tension wires

Total garbage, They make an incredibly good hunting spot for turkeys and deer. Wildlife would tend not to be there if it was dangerous. I've seen bees and other pollinators in them. If it was so...
