Took the hive apart today. Lots of grubs and adult SHB's. Also lots of wax moths. I guess it is a combination. No dead bees in hive. About ten or so flying around the hive though. I'll post a couple...

    Re: lost a hive

OK, did some research and they are wax moths. I thought wax moths attacked stored supers and not in an active hive. Maybe my bees bugged out and I didn't notice and then the moths came in???

I have seen SHB from time to time, but these "worms" are about 3/8" long. I have not taken the hive apart yet.

    lost a hive

So the other day I passed by my hive and noticed that there was no coming and going. I took off the covers and saw small worms crawling on the top bars. I assume they are Wax Moths? What happened? Do...

    Re: Display type "hive"

I have. I get a lot of information on the type of observation you would put in a home or school to observe the day to day progress of a hive. I just want something to take to a fair to put on a table...

    plastic pail extractors

Are the plastic pail hand cranked extractors (listed at about $140) worth it? I only have two hives and have been using the crush and strain method. Can't afford the 3-400 dollar ones at this point.

Thanks for your comments. And I agree with you. Wouldn't the box inside an octagon defeat the purpose? Aren't they supposed to resemble a hollowed out tree trunk. Also, you do have a little...
