Re: get the bees off the comb

If it is established comb that has some strength give it a hard downward shake without twisting. brush the rest off with a brush, feather, large leaf whatever. put it in a container with a top so...

Re: TBH top bar comb attachement?

popsicle stick attaching works great too.. they build on both sides and attach to the underside of the bar for a lot of surface area. with all top bar combs you just need to be careful about not...

    Re: Question about comb building

if you have another box, add it and see what happens. They will draw comb if they have the need for it.

Re: Lots of bees outside entrance

Leave the first comb there. they have that one set where they want it with enough space before the entrance. add one like the 3rd spot. move everything else straight back how it is.

    I would...

Re: Lots of bees outside entrance

feed a new bar between 2 nice straight brood bars.

there are not many 100% rules in beekeeping. feeding is one of them, it depends on the bees and location. I think feeding is best done when...

Re: Cost of Feeding Sugar Syrup

capping is a matter of moisture content. if they have the cells filled it just needs to be dried to their liking before it gets capped. And if you haven't opened up your follower board fully...

    Re: hive bein robbed

I'm new but a lot of these robbing stories don't sound like robbing.. just active bees. My hive is easily viewed during the day so i see orientation flights and just major entrance activity a lot...

    Re: Observation Top Cover

what type of hive? Bees like it dark, so you don't want a clear cover letting light in, they may leave. it is hard to see much going on with a Lang. hive anyway since the frames block much of...

    Re: Huge honeycomb

They will sometimes build honey comb for storage in wide combs to be more efficient with the wax. as long as they have other bars of honey stored up than pulling that one to harvest is fine. they...

Re: Messed up frame in a deep?

could let them cap the rest of it and then extract it. i'd probably put the capped side against the wall and put everything flush against the other side so the rest of the spacing would be normal

    feeding just dry milk powder?

I have a jar of Nido powder (dry whole milk) that isn't going to get used. I see that dry milk is an ingredient in pollen patties a lot. I wonder if just the milk powder would be any use to them...

Re: Top entrance Should I have One

  24. Re: backfilling with honey but not building comb

I see, I'll just have to keep watching and seeing what they do. It just seems like they only did one decent brood cycle so it seemed a bit soon for shutting down. we'll see.
