Mine are also 2 frames (deeps), 4 mating nucs in a deep box. I use one entrance on each side for the 4 chambers.

    Early Drones in the Northeast

Is there a good way to get drones for mating, early in the season in the NE?

With our short season, I'm looking to get any time advantage I can.

Re: Different Type of Box - Almost Done

Thank You. I'm very much looking forward to hearing what it sounds like once the finish is complete.

The bridge is ebony. It's already made and drilled, as is the soundboard. I temporarily...
  7. Re: All Deeps - How Many Do You Plan On Per Colony?

My 4X4 nucs out of winter built into 4 deeps this year. I used them to make deep frames of honey in case I needed to feed frames for my new nucs before winter.

I've heard good things about those kits Barry. This one is made from scratch. The only thing I didn't do was resaw the thin pieces for the sides, back, and soundboard.

I made my first foray into sourdough last month. I began my starter Thanksgiving week and baked my first loafs with it last week. I'm not much of a baker, I'm more of a chef around the house, but I...

Re: Double Nuc Swarm: Both Sides at once?

It looks like this was just one side of the nuc, a regular swarm. The hive is left well provisioned with capped, and just about to be capped, queen cells.

This one just got away from me I guess,...

Double Nuc Swarm: Both Sides at once?

One of my double nucs swarmed. A side by side Palmer style, but, from the size of the cluster, it looks like both sides swarmed at once and joined up?

Is this something that happens with these?
