Re: To deep? Two deep? Or Too deep?

You can do both. 2 medium hives and 2 deep hives.
The deep frames and boxes you can cut them down to convert to all mediums if you don't like them.
My set up is all deep because I rarely move the...
  2. Re: What temp range and humidity for incubator queen cell finishing?

For 50 bucks it is not a bad deal for this incubator.
I have more foam than I can use so double up the thickness is not an issue. And
building a bigger incubator is possible too. These foam are...

    Re: bee tree food?

Because there are so many different bee
diseases out there you really don't know the
source of the honey. The most common disease is the
foulbroods. There is a caution to not use the honey ...

    Re: home stretch in alaska

If Spring is not here yet the carni queen
will not lay because neither pollen and nectar is
available to stimulate the queen. Since the
cluster is still on the comb they will not go down to...
  6. Re: Any Treatment Free Beekeepers in High Beekeeping Area?

I don't know the answer to this question.
Has anyone able to surround their apiary with TF bees to have the virgin
queens mated? This is the only answer I have--tf drone saturation.

Re: First year plan ADVICE wanted

From the many reading, I still have a long way to go to be TF.
There is a max # of hives before you can take that route. Though the
OAV treatment had brought down the mite level to less than 2%...

Re: Was this a queen cell?

Just to bee sure on the term here. A queen cell and a queen cup is different.
A queen cell has a developing larvae in it where as a queen cup does not only an empty cup.

    If you see eggs and...
  9. Re: What temp range and humidity for incubator queen cell finishing?

OT, thanks for the good infos.
I have too many questions to ask.
Hope you have the time to answer them all. One day I hope to build one too.

    Re: Queens Coming Soon

How many bees to keep in each section depends on the temperature. At least
the temp. is consistent in the above 40s in the night time. High in the 60-80s in the day
time will bee fine. I had...

And if you find that the hive is still alive but low in the bee population you can consider
taking some frames of bees from the strong hive to give it to the weaker hive. This will help the weaker...

AA, when you scattered these seeds do you water them in your out fields?

Re: Difference between two hives question

I hope you get rid of the mites good the last winter.
Last late winter the mites got one of my nuc hives. I end up combining 3 nucs into one because the
population is going down hill this Spring. ...

Re: Whiten up the comb--how to?

    Thanks for the heads-up!

Re: How do I limit my hives?

Try to sell them on CL.
You can do swarm management and at the same time combine all the hives
into one big one to harvest the honey. Then split them up again to overwinter them.
    Each location...

    Confirmed bee plants

  20. Re: How long before inserting your queen cell do you make up your mating nuc?

Re: Want to make just a few queens

It is too late. Time is already ran out.
By the time your mated order queens get there your

Re: How does my nuc design hold up?

Re: How does my nuc design hold up?

You can make a small shelter/canopy over the cut hole. I'm thinking either a milk jug plastic or soda bottle
to cover the raised shelter. You would cut big vertical slots so that the bees can go...
