Re: Funniest bee question ever asked

This new neighbor may have seen some combat on his video game console. As he waddled over smoking his cigarette to introduce himself to me. All of 23 and full of it. I doubt if he what it takes to...

    Re: Table Saw

Really? Did they have electricity in 1910? Dust collection, flesh detecting tech, plastic?

The way you use a saw has not changed much, but saws have.

Re: Funniest bee question ever asked

My new to me neighbor came across the line yesterday and introduced himself. He stated that he was going to put his chicken coop against my property line. He then asked "Do you make honey?". ...

Re: AG Burning and Other Control Burns

I wonder what keepers do in outyards around fields that get burned off. Surely they don't move the hives out.

My location is the start of hilly country a few miles from where river bottoms form...

AG Burning and Other Control Burns

Driving home last night, the heavy dense air in pockets of the valleys was filled with a smoky smell. Driving home this afternoon, several large smoke plumes filled the air while driving out the...

    Re: Table Saw

I just read that Bosch is coming out with one soon that uses the capacitive touch system that drops the blade if it makes contact with flesh. Unlike most current systems, this one is going to be...

Re: Rendering Beeswax from Brood Frames

There is some wax in it, filter it thru a screen first to remove cocoons first. Then strain thru cloth. But is usually dark wax.

Use the old brood comb in swarm traps, good scent for the box.

    Re: Pine vs. Cedar Boxes

That was for bandsaw cut red cedar. But it had been air dried and ready to go.

I talked to him today, he has sold his mill. I was looking for some 2x10 cedar to make some Long Lang hives. I...

    Re: Suicidal bees?

Some say snow confuses their orientation. If you think about it, on a normal snowless day, light is up, dark is down. When you come barrelling out of a hive and see light colors both ways up and...

    Re: Suicidal bees?

They got chilled on the flight and just pooped out. Low 40's is pretty borderline for a flight. But they probably needed to fly and purge. And some of the dead ones were probably carried out of...

    Re: Pine vs. Cedar Boxes

I did cedar for the nicer hives around the house, and I make them myself with custom cut lumber that is only around $1 a board foot. I doubt if many can buy it that cheap without going to a sawmill....

    Re: cedar hives 90% done

The Flood CWF-UV comes in clear or cedar tone. Clear is what I use and it will darken the Western Cedar you have somewhat, but makes the Eastern Red Cedar really pop.

    Re: cedar hives 90% done

    Nice work.

You might try something other than varnish. I treated the first Red Cedar Hive I built with spar varnish, and it did not last one season, the finish that is.

    I presently use a deck...

    Re: Beekeeper Smell

I always give the suit a few puffs of smoke from the smoker. If the suit takes a few hits and has stingers in it, I really smoke those spots.

They really seem to ignore the vinyl gloves I use.
