    Re: housel positioning

Exactly OT. I tried magnification to see if I could see anything. I couldn't! I'm hanging my hat on this one. Before I did just wanted to see if anyone had come up with some real info to prove...

Re: Getting Mating Nuc Foundation Drawn

What I did to get mini frames drawn out was make a bunch of top bars out of 2x scrap. They were 1/2 inch thick same size as a full top bar. I screwed the top bar to 2 mini frames and placed them...
  4. Re: Michael Palmer mini mating nuc division board feeder

MP do you have plans for moving away from the division board feeders in your mini nucs? I ditched the division boards and made a removable divider out of 2x10 cut to fit with a top bar across the...
  5. Re: Eyelets For Wiring Frames - Necessary?

I use a paper stapler, cheap one from Walmart or the dollar store. There only a few bucks and faster than eyelets. The staples are only around a buck and 5000 in a pack. So you can do 500 frames...

    Re: housel positioning

Thank you guys. I gave up on the practice after trying it for 2 seasons quite a few years ago. Was checking in to see if anyone actually found any merit to it that I was unable to discover.

    housel positioning

So out of curiosity how many of you TF small cell beekeepers actually use housel positioning? What are your thoughts on it? Out of mid winter boredom I figured we could discuss this.

Re: Timing for requeening or dispatching?

You could also pull a few frames from a mean colony and start a nuc with your new queen. After your new queen is laying find and kill the old queen. Do a newspaper combine. More than one way to...

    Re: Treatment free honey production????

Just a thought to point out. If you produce 100 pounds of honey. Then you have to back feed 20 pounds of syrup. Your true amount of surplus is only 80 lbs of honey. So a thread like this is...

Re: How do you wire a frame?

I use 5 horizontal wires, cheap dollar store paper staples instead of expensive eyelets. I wrap and tie to secure the wire to the frame. So it is a variation of #6. I still wire the same if I use...

  17. Re: To use or not to use small cell foundation?

Never was a guru nor would I ever claim to be. But cerana's top range is 4.9 and they survive with mites. Only makes sense to me that mellifera would do the same. Been TF for many years my bees...
  18. Re: To use or not to use small cell foundation?

I couldn't agree more. Most, not all, advocates of small /natural cell beekeeping use the theory of 1/3 genetics, 1/3 natural feed, 1/3 small cell core broodnest. If you think run of the mill...
  19. Re: How's everyones bees doing over this crazy winter?

As of a week ago, no loses. Going into year 16 TF. Winters not over yet..... small cell.... oh wait doesn't work anyways.

Re: Noob Question: Genetics vs Adaptation

Umm the Lusby's come to mind. Might not agree with all there theories but they still are some of the first TF pioneers.

Re: Mike Palmer 4 Frame nucs

I divided the bottom deep box with regular 2x stock (1 1/2"). The half sized boxes are 8 1/8. The 3/4 or even 5/4 doesn't work well with small cell bees just to save anyone working in that area...
  22. Re: importance of treating neighbours in TF beekeeping

    Dennis,

I guess now is how do you clean things up and proceed from here. I think your bees were more than resilient had they not been directly infected with virus infected combs. Yes genetics...
  23. Re: Varroa Tolerant Queen Breeders for 2015

Ray of course I raise my own queens. I will continue to do so.
  24. Re: Varroa Tolerant Queen Breeders for 2015

I agreed Barry. Simply was looking for a list maybe some place I'm not aware of. Just want raw information. Been TF for many years. I will go threw any info presented carefully to what suits my...
