Re: Where to Buy Bulk Sugar?

Have you tried David Adams, I see him advertising sugar in the Bee Journal all the time. I'm not sure what he charges though....

    Re: ULTRABREEZE JACKET - PULLOVER?

I use mine as a pull over all the time. I never use the zippers unless I take the veil off to wash the jacket.

Re: I've got 1600 lbs of honey, now what?

I would think you could sell 1600lbs pretty easy from the house just by using free internet ads and craigslist. Bevy had some good ideas too, keep your eyes open for any kind of gathering, church...

    Re: fall feeding ?

I've been using hfcs, it is so much easier to use rather than mixing up sugar water. I cut it 50/50 with water in the spring but this time of year I've been using it almost straight hfcs. Using it...

    Re: Fall nuc demand

Not near as much demand as there is in the spring. This past spring I was getting 4-5 calls a day for people wanting nucs after I was sold out. For the past month I have had some nucs for sale and...

Re: Varroa? Yes. But What Else is Going On?

It's called bald brood. It's caused by the lesser wax moth. The wax worms eat their way through the top of the cell just under the caps the bees can tell something is wrong under the brood and uncap...

    Re: New Beek need help

I think you have time to make a queen but, I think it would be better this time of year to go ahead and buy a mated queen. Queens are relatively cheap and easy to come by this time of year. My mating...

Re: Nuc plans using 2x12 lumber??

I make my end boards 9 1/4 wide and then just use a regular deep for all the other measurements.

    Re: Maxant No Drip Valve

I have two Maxant bottling tanks and will be buying a third one soon. They are awesome! The NDV will drip just a little tiny bit. But, I just rake the bottle off the bottom of the valve as I pull the...

    Re: Getting over the hump

When I first started counting mites I used the Pam and corrugated plastic board for my counting method. My counts were always pretty low or so I thought. Then one day I noticed DWV, so I asked on Bee...

Re: Florida nectar sources / plants

No, your tree is defiantly a Holly, you actually have two different kinds of Holly, Your first picture and the one with the dark green shiney leaf is also a Holly. The small low growing plant is...
  12. Re: Commercial filter unit from Dadant, setup and use.

I like the Maxant filter too. I'm using the single filter, honey goes from the extractor into a clarifier and then pumped up to the filter and then flows out of the filter into a barrel or buckets. I...

Re: 2nd year bee keeper w/1st nuc

This late in the season I would leave the queen cells and let them work it out. The first one to hatch will most likely destroy the other cell before it hatches. I would think you only have one shot...

Re: Honey flow and full moon?

In another thread about Alfalfa Jim Lyon mentioned that it produced more nectar when it was a little drought stressed. So it could be true with clover also. Don't have any idea about the moon part.

    Re: Creamy honey

It's probably just crystallized. Some honey naturally crystallizes creamy. If you had got it hot enough to melt wax when it cooled back off the honey and wax would separate they would not mix.

Re: How Big Should It Be?

I don't know much about cold winters, and I would normally say listen to the local that said you shouldn't have to feed. BUT, you got a late start so i would feed until you get them built up into...

Re: Full Frames of Honey in Deeps

It really depends on how many bees you have? The way you described it I was thinking of combing both hives down into a single deep. Then you would have three extra deeps to store. If you still have...

I would not make any decisions right now on whether or not your bees like the plastic frames. It's quite possible they are just not in a comb drawing mood. Bees that would not touch those frames...

Re: Full Frames of Honey in Deeps

If you have two smaller queenless colonies that haven't started having laying workers yet, I would combine the two and add a new mated queen. Store the extra frames you have for future hives. Feed...
  20. Re: DO I need to treat first year package bees for mites?

I don't like Maqs for temps that high, it is real hard on queens and brood. Apivar or the new hopgaurd II would of been a safer bet, or even Apigaurd. But, its already done now. Chances are they...

It's starting to get a little late even for North Fl. It will be middle October before your new queens brood starts to hatch. So with that in mind if you make a split make a big split. In the spring...

    Re: Honey color for contest?

Watch your fill level, foam on top of the honey, and make sure you have clean lids. That's the only advise I've got about honey judging.
  23. Re: Logistics of keeping up with syrup supplementation
