dr4ngas: The farm is located in Saylorsburg, Monroe County, PA. I had to look up Sleep Hollow Lane. I have a fellow beekeeper friend that lives on Molasses Rd. I attended Washington Elem from 1st...

How did you get into beekeeping?

I remember as a young kid, about 5 years old, visiting my Aunt Annette and Uncle Walt in the little town of Flicksville, Pennsylvania. Northampton County was the heart of an area nicknamed the...

Re: How do you remove pickle smell????

I do swim in a pool. I hold my breath and I don't drink the water. If I get water in my mouth, I don't swallow it.

I guess I just think of my customers well-being. I'm not sure what laws and...

Re: How do you remove pickle smell????

Yup. I worked in the food industry years ago. We used bleach to clean the floors, walls, countertops. We never used it on pots, pans, plates, utensils or anything that came into contact with food...

Re: How do you remove pickle smell????

I don't think that I'd want to store my honey in buckets that held bleach for weeks. Sometimes it's not the wiser to be cheap. Go spend the $3.99 for the bucket and $1.99 for the lid at Lowes.

Re: Colony update here in Pa

Last Monday, I ventured into a new direction and sold queens for the first time. A friend of a friend was in need, so I was able to provide 3 laying Italians. I charged $20 per marked queen. This...
  13. Re: Can someone help explain this pollination contract entry?

Not only to understand time, Angel, but also the added fuel and labor costs to physically move the hives.

I think that you've answered your own question......it's hot and humid in Atlanta....not to mention that all of your bees are back from foraging and it is crowded. My bees have been doing the same...

Re: Is is bad to put on too many supers?

I was told by a Master Beekeeper to "over super in the Spring". They'll fill what they can, but can never have too much space.

  25. Re: When to add new honey super to colony? 2nd year rookie question.

Over super in the Spring. Don't wait for them to draw it out before putting another honey super on. In VA, your major nectar flow should have already started. Here in PA, it starts around June...
