  1. Re: When to add a super...mid April or a better gauge?

What have they done in the existing boxes? I added one undrawn super today to both hives because they had 80% drawn in the third super and were filling it. The two other ones have been slow to draw...

    Re: Robbing Screen ?

That is what I am using with nucs I started in the same yard as the parent hives. The will figure it out if they belong to the hive.

    Re: Swarm Today

Now that I have time to think, I probably should have put drawn comb in the swarm trap. That might have worked. I think I will build a cardboard nuc that I can put on the extension pole for the next...

    Re: Swarm Today

Mine didn't like the comb trick or the trap idea. The vacated the premise sometime between 1:15 and 4:30 today. Who knows, maybe they went back into the hive. Still a lot of traffic in it.

    Re: Swarm Today

1683916839Okay, I have one in my holly tree right now. I can't get a ladder on it because it it too small at the top, and I can't bend the tree over because it is too big. I threw a rope across some...
  6. Re: $10 to make a vaporizer, so why buy one for $190?

Maybe because some people are not builders or do not have the time. I had a beekeeper friend and we bought the first one and I made the second. but, I enjoy making stuff....
  7. Re: Photos of my partial sheet of foundation in deep frames -experiment

I'm using this method this year with all new starts. Why are we putting the dowels in the bottom? To keep the comb straight in a line with the foundation?
  8. Re: KelleyBee's Phone Support, which to choose to check out my order?

I ordered a while ago and they were waiting on a re-supply of some items. Mine shipped yesterday after I called and changed to a second item that was supposed to come in a did not. Very helpful staff...

    Re: Built my First Nuc!

Use a 2x4 with the slanted cut for your flashing jig. Did 11 tops yesterday and thought they looked good. Takes about 3 minutes to make a jig. 45 deg angle will work. Someone posted a pic of it...

Re: Messing with bees at night

I had some in a treestand and after picking them up went for a lower choice. I think I would strap them tight with ratchet straps up in the stand and then lower them with a rope. After falling from a...

    Re: Bradford pear trees

Phoebee, if I am not mistaken they are related to the fruit bearing kind of pear. At least I have heard you can graft fruit pear scions onto Bradford pear rootstock. I hope it is true since I...

Re: Dead bees with small/short abdomens

I checked the hives tonight and saw a few very small bees like you are describing in front of the hives. These looked like normal bees just small. I think it is the wide swings in temperature that we...

  17. Re: Extractor-less honey by- "Honey Flow"

Oh SNAP! Hope they have a plan for that one.

SNL....I am thinking they hit the 2.5-3 mill mark in less than two weeks. The question is: can you stay up that long?
  18. Re: Extractor-less honey by- "Honey Flow"

I'll bite when they make an app to start the process that I can control with my iphone or ipad. :)

Re: Not all frames are created equal

Are you using a staple gun or hammer and nails? Harbor freight staple gun works really well for frame assembly and it won't break the bank.

I checked mine today and had, in the stronger hives, 7-8 frames of capped brood and larvae in the top deep. Didn't check the bottom deep as I did not want to stay in there that long. They were...
