    Re: When do I need to worry?

    Thanks for your responses. I'll try to be patient. It sounds like one more week should give me something of a definitive answer? I wish I had some beek friends I could borrow brood from, but so...

    Re: Bees left hive, grouped on ground

    Yes, we have been feeding sugar syrup. They were not eating it very quickly for the first few days. I realize now that may have been due to the low temps we were experiencing here (someone on...

    Re: Bees left hive, grouped on ground

    I should also mention that the hive is a brand new TBH, and the bees who have remained in the hive, although active, have not built any comb yet. We introduced them last Friday. Do you still think...

    I didn't notice any fighting, just more of a flying frenzy than anything. I do have the bottom screened, but maybe I will cover it to keep the bees warmer.

    Re: Stupid Mistake...

    Thanks for the responses. Yes, the queen was released from her cage, but is there any advice for gracefully removing all the bees that still cling to the queen cage and crazy comb? I've tried the...

    [QUOTE=jwcarlson;1102045]

    "If you don't see any comb do you mean that you're looking in the window and don't see any or you're pulling bars and don't see any? Nearly full sized combs can be...
  10. Re: My Bees aren't building comb (2nd colony in a row)

    I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Watching them not do anything is incredibly disheartening.

    Stupid Mistake...

    Hi Everyone,
    So, like most newbies out there I've been trying to read as much as possible about the best way to accomplish the everyday tasks of beekeeping, but as most of you know there are ever...
  12. Re: My Bees aren't building comb (2nd colony in a row)

    I'm experiencing a similar thing. We installed a package last Friday (May 2nd) and I'm still not seeing any comb. I've been feeding sugar syrup and fondant (they seem to be going for the fondant...
