  1. Combined hives, now swarm cells, queen cups, oh my

    Hello,

In my yard I have one first-wintered over hive (small) and a wintered over nuc-sized September swarm from that small hive. On inspection a week ago, the small main hive appeared to be...

    Re: Lemon juice and Fumagillin

Many thanks, I won't add the lemon juice. Someone suggested adding a little Honey B Healthy, I might try that. Thanks, again.

I sent 30 bees, in alcohol, to the Maine State Apiarist who examined them and confirmed nosema. He...

    Lemon juice and Fumagillin

One of my winter-over hives (went into the winder weakfish) has nosema but isn't taking the Fumagillin/syrup. Is it okay to add lemon juice to entice them to drink the Kool-aid? Many thanks.

    Hello all,

    Re: New Beekeeper

Thank you for your words of encouragement and a more positive view of swarming, I am appreciative. I ended up with two colonies. The swarms happened a week apart so for a few weeks I had three...

    New Beekeeper

    Hello!

I am new to beekeeping here in Maine; I installed my first package in May 2013 and have had several very interesting, fun, and confusing times to say the least. They swarmed not once but...
