Re: Goldenrod honey, harvest for sale or not?

White snakeroot is all over in western Ky too. So I am curious about milk sickness and crossover to snakeroot honey. Any connection. My
Goldenrod flow has been good too.

    Re: Needless killing of bees?

Someone who can't figure out how to not kill a bunch of bees by themselves....probably can't be taught much anyway. This isn't rocket science.

I have been using advantech top and bottoms since last year. Look like new still, even the unpainted ones. Mine are not quite 3/4 thickness but I don't remember exactly. More like 5/8th. I also use...

Robber screens for sure and close down the big hives entrances also. And maybe feed all hives at once. Not just the nucs. Plain sugar water without honeybee healthy or similar additives. The scent...

Re: Had to kill my queen

So.... won't that just get you another queen like the mother was? I got some nwc queens from Strachan's in CA. So far very gentle
and great layers. If the daughter is similar to the old queen that...

    Re: Bag Feeders?

I did not say it was not a mess. But they are reusable for the more frugal among us. And if the holes are small and you wear latex gloves its not too much of a mess. Take it or leave it. Its ok by me.

  15. Re: Got my nuc installed...messy, stuck together frames?

When you replace the four frames do not put them all in the middle of brood. Maybe just one in the brood nest with others to either side, or both sides.

Yeah what Vance said. I would add make sure the queenless hive has eggs and young larva, preferably on new comb, not old dark hard comb.

    Re: Robbers on new Nucs

Yeah that screen is way too small. Needs to be about 4" out from the entrance on each side. Or better yet a vertical opening about 5 or 6" inches above the opening.

I have had bees two years and an extractor for one. My foundationless mediums extract fine with no wires. No need to crush and strain, although you can. And in western KY we say whomperjawed:)
