LisaNH, try the Ohio State University Bee Garden site for some interesting and Honey Bee attracting plantings. Steve

If it truly was mold...whiskers...maybe too much honey over the 15% level is still in the wax. Try heating the wax....be very careful....to between 180 degrees and 200 degrees for awhile. No, crayons...
The best source of filtering gunk out of wax is pouring it through pieces of sweatshirt, pour it from the inside of the material. I use a crockpot but only for already processed wax....only to melt...
Hi all, It is nice to see that others have as high an oppinion of slatted racks as I do. I use screened bottom boards and slatted racks on all of my hives. As it was said earlier it provides good...

Is there a step before using the fogger for the first time? Do you need to clean out the fogger before using it for the beekeeper's application?
I had a bee kill in two of my hives. It just...
I am a beekeeper with only a few hives. I can purchase "Crystal Plus 70FG" in small, one gallon, quantities from the STE Oil Company. This can be done online, very convienient even though shipping...
Hugo, No...like the other person said a cinnamon smell typically is milkweed....the smell from goldenrod is a sourish smell and comes in mainly when G is being worked. Steve
In my neck of the woods goldenrod is not quite in bloom yet. It will be soon, I have seen it in south Jersey and we are about two to three weeks behind them. I have a few customers that specifically...
It was a great picnic, auction, barbeque, and the pool. Having a mean hive is definitely not a desirable trait to breed for. My gentle hives produce more than my agitated hives do. Usually the...
I have heard of the process....but...don't know anyone who has tried it. They are using formic acid...why not acetic acid (vinegar). Now the only problem is should it be introduced by steam.....FGMO...
Becky, Honeybees will travel up to about three miles to collect the best nectar and pollen sources. Hopefully the lavender is the best source for both and they will do the rest. Normally I use one...
Call your local cooperative extention and let them know. They should in turn let a local beekeeper know....
Do you have a Lowes out your way? They carry them.
Try the beekeeping catalogs....Dadant, Betterbee, MannLake, Walter Kelly, Ross Apiary....etc. They all have the all have an assortment of products. Honey, pollen, comb, stix, candles etc.
I am another small time beekeeper. I have purchased bottles from a distributer and labels from Betterbee. I bottle at home. I sell 12oz honeybears, 1lb, 2lb, and 5lb jars. I make candles and also...
After an inspection of one of my hives I noticed a green powdery substance on a few of the frames. Has anyone seen this before? Will the bees clean this up? Is it harmful to the bees? Should I...
deggary, To get an organic certification from the state you are in you must meet certain requirements. You cannot bee within two(2) miles of a golf course, a plant nursery, a sewage facility, etc....
It may be skunk cabbage pollen. It is an early source for bees. Steve
Droneman, We have been using scent and color for years in our rubber molds. Steve
Making a permanent business change from hobby to sideliner can be risky, but, lots of folks do it. To generate the income you are talking about my guess would be 200 hives and that would be...
Grumpy, I use a capping scratcher to get to the areas that cannot be reached by a knife. I don't use an electric knife. I am a small operation and find a serrated edge bread knife works very well....
