It's been over twenty years since I had a hive of German black bees. I got stung through bee suit & gloves so many time my wife stopped counting when she reached 100.
I do not miss them...
Why do you think she only had 6 days to mate? It often takes many more days than that. I feel you will see eggs soon, but I'd give it another week before I did anything. Good luck!
Try shaving down the sides of the cells you are grafting from. Makes it a lot easier to get the grafting tip under them without flipping them. Hope that helps you!
Outstanding job! That's one I'd be proud to have done...
Are there actually live queen cells under there? If not, then they are doing what bees do--building comb in empty spaces. Like another commentor, I usually place a frame of foundation in my cell...
I've had this happen several times. She has always recovered.
It won't matter a bit that the Nicot frame is on foundation rather than drawn comb. They will draw out the foundation soon enough.
The only problem I've had is workers putting honey in the plastic...
Excellent people selling quality breeder queens--strongly recommended!
The meanest bees I ever worked in 20 years were Buckfast out of Texas i bought 2 years ago. Some of the nicest, gentlest, most productive bees I've ever worked are Canadian Buckfast that I have been...
for at least 24 hours -- this should settle them down. After you get these mini-nucs drawn out, it becomes a LOT easier. I hold bees in them while I feed them to get them to draw out the comb. I put...
I bought 2 queens from all the breeders I could find who claimed that they did not treat or had hygienic bees. I will not treat that yard & see how they do. I plan to use that beeyard as a drone...
Clinton, it was nice to meet you finally. I agree the meeting was terrific! Lots of credit to the hard-working organizers form HAS & the Ohio folks. Well done! See you next year in Tennessee. -Danno
If you have good queen cells, you will notioce that the bees never cover the ends of the queen cells with webbing. The queens will emerge just fine. Or you can cut the cells out fromn the webbing...
The movie is simply wonderful! We showed it to almost 300 beekeepers at the Heartland Apiculture Society meeting last summer and everyone loved it. Highly recommended! -Danno
The best book I ever read on the subject was was 'Swarming' by Snelgrove
You can read a review of it here: http://www.mainebeekeepers.org/Swarming_2-08.pdf
Does anyone know who sells SMALL battery boxes for shipping queens? I can find them at Koehnen & Mann Lake for 28 queens. But I have gotten queens in much smaller boxes -- more like 3-5 queen size....
THANK YOU!!! -Danno
I got two of both -- still evaluating the difference. -Danno
great communicators -- highly recommended!
Hope that helps - Danno
My guess is 'Only My Two Cents Worth' -Danno
Hope to see you all -- sure wish they'd get the registration up on the website -- it's less than 2 months away... http://www.heartlandbees.com/
I have always liked the queens I got from Purvis Bros. They are hardy survivors. Highly recommended! -Dannno
Thanks for mentioning this great beekeeper, Joe. Dana has inspired us all! -Danno
