  1. Re: Getting rid of a nasty tempered hive and saving the brood....

Why not make several nucs out of them, leave them queen less for a day, and purchase a queen from a northern guy.

    Re: Bee's in the sawdust

If you have some dry pollen feed I would feed it to them. They come to saw dust at this time which is when I put out dry pollen.

Re: Do Winter Drones Mean My Queen Died?

If you had some warm weather come through they could have prematurely laid some drone larvae. Since drones are later toward the outside usually then they would be the first to get left in the cold...
  5. Re: 50F and my gangsta hive was threatening me today

I would also wondering if they are low on stores. You mentioned there temper in Summer and now. If you have had warmed weather they may be running low on food. The same temperament can come with low...

Re: Do Winter Drones Mean My Queen Died?

No. Sometimes they didn't kick all of them out when winter started.

When were they treated and with what? Also, what temperature was it when you treated?

Re: Feeding Bees Syrup in Winter

I wouldn't do sugar bricks till it got colder. Your day temps are probably to warm and your gives may break it down and throw it out the door. After one of mine threw a 5 lbs of sugar out the door in...

    Re: Sugar brick question

A large colony can move a #5 sugar block right out the door in 24hrs if the temperature permit. They have consumed little to none of it and a large number of bees would have an easy job breaking it...

    Re: Sugar blocks and oav

There should be no need to take them off. If the logic of taking them off was to prevent them from eating any residual OA then you would need to remove ever frame with pollen or honey from the entire...

    Re: feeding

I would recommend some other research besides what some small beekeepers say. A huge majority of commercial beekeepers is hfcs. It has also been studied that bees can live longer on it than pure can...

    Re: Sugar bricks won't harden

Sugar probably melted and won't harden properly. Try adding dry sugar. I didn't do mine in the stove this year but instead put them in the garage for a couple of days. Hard as a rock!!

    Re: feeding

I would think so. I would think in South Georgia you might still have a chance for a little flow since we are a few weeks from real cold temps. I live in south Texas so I still feed 1:1 right now...

SWM. I tried to order a large quantity the other day and they didn't qualify for free shipping.

Sailor plastics. I just ordered 1lb bottles with kids for around .60 a piece. You have to order bulk but I think it was well worth it. They do cheaper shipping but it that price was with shipping...

    Formic acid temp

I seem to not be able to find a good answer on the temperature that formic acid can be used and what time of year people use it. Thanks.
  18. Re: What is the best way to permanently mark a beehive box?

Get a brand. Some people make electric one for a little over $100 I think. We have a "brand number" that is registered with the state. I will be branding all mine with my name next year.
  19. Re: bees covering the entire front of the hive

Look about possibly adding another box. They may be needing a little more room. Also, you might think about a screen bottom board. If you are running a solid I would add a box to let them spread out...

    Re: Beginner questions!

The frame should hold a gallon. That quart will go in a day or two would be my guess. I fill about once a week on my frame feeders. Sugar ants won't cause to much of a problem. If you see that the...
  21. Re: So I made a deposit on 2 nucs back in November

I would be patient. If the weather has been anything like Texas they are a month behind. Flow have been dead so far and I am feeding my nucs now when a normal year they all would be in singles. I...
