    Re: TF until today

The hive doesn't breed with itself. The queens go out in the wild and hopefully pick up better genetics. All you are doing is letting the ones that can't survive varoa die that should only leave...

    Re: Bees and Shipping

There is no mention of long term success in that quote only that it is a good start.

    Re: Bees and Shipping

Your long term success is dependent on the determination of the beekeeper to succeed not on whether you buy 1,2, or 4 of anything.

Re: Bees closing entrance with propolis

Dirty feet. Yeah that is exactly what I was thinking. Last year I had the bottom of the frames plastered shut. I use SBB open all winter.

    Re: TF until today

Very informed people who look for honey without chemicals do not believe you. Many get into beekeeping because of that very reason.

    Re: TF until today

Yes, how will you get that price if you start dumping chemicals in the hive? Not tell the customer?

Re: Have you ever proselytized for beekeeping?

Or thrown off 20 swarms a year and multiplied 400 fold, we don't know. What we do know is beekeepers have catastrophic failures for a period of time and then they don't.

    Re: Question for the group

How sad this disease is. He will remember to a tee what he did as a kid and won't remember what you told him 30 seconds ago. My mother died with Alzheimer's so I know what you are going through. I...

    Re: TF until today

If your ultimate goal is to produce honey, usually for sale, I don't think treatment free will work for you. One of the methods of keeping mites down is brood breaks which result in smaller hives...

I am all for promoting bees just not feeding them.

    Re: Open Air Colony

It appears to be in a bunch of branches. It is hard to tell from the photo, how big is this colony?
  13. Re: Would you B interested and How much would you pay for a 18/9 extractor kit??

Wear your fingers out looking, you never will find the post. I may have offered it to someone to use but I wouldn't give it away because I still need it. I suspect Mark was tryng to be funny.

  14. Re: Would you B interested and How much would you pay for a 18/9 extractor kit??

My point is I could build a better, higher quality extractor then what is out in the marketplace which may or may not cost me more than I could sell it for. Costs do not dictate selling prices. If...
  15. Re: Would you B interested and How much would you pay for a 18/9 extractor kit??

I like how you speak for people.

It is funny that anyone that has used it doesn't have your view of how it works and how simple it is. Can you disassemble yours in three minutes and take the...
  16. Re: Would you B interested and How much would you pay for a 18/9 extractor kit??

This may be the case for you but many back yard beekeepers do not need the integrity of a commercial grade extractor and their time isn't that valuable as a hobbyist.

I do not want to discourage...
  17. Re: Would you B interested and How much would you pay for a 18/9 extractor kit??

Think about what happens if you have 18 frames up to speed and someone kicks the cord out with no overrunning clutch. Could you do that for me?

    Re: queen above queen excluder

It only takes one oversize space in the QE for her to get above it. Check the spacing.
  19. Re: Would you B interested and How much would you pay for a 18/9 extractor kit??

Costs only affect price when they are too high. Don't you try to get as much as you can for your honey if you were to sell it?
  20. Re: Would you B interested and How much would you pay for a 18/9 extractor kit??

It certainly has a reduction and it will spin it but not for long. Getting the load up to speed will eventually kill the drill and it absolutely needs an overrunning clutch or it will break your...
  21. Re: Would you B interested and How much would you pay for a 18/9 extractor kit??

I would say off the top of my head not very much. The problem is if someone can accomplish the "All you would have to do" then usually they can do the whole thing themselves. When you are not an...
  22. Re: No larvae. I saw the queen a week ago. I'm in denial.

Will a queenless colony try to raise a queen no matter what this late in the game?

Re: Spring Split - Last light or Midday????

A single split from a very strong hive in the spring will barely make a dent in an over wintered queen. You will be hard pressed to have the split off half equal the parent hive even if you...
  25. Re: No larvae. I saw the queen a week ago. I'm in denial.

    What are you calling nectar?

When there is a few bees you can find the queen and when there is a lot of bees you can't find the queen. No kidding?

I think you should make some mead and set up...
