Re: Thinking of a quilted boxes

I will be adding the IC on top of the quilt box and closing up the hole, perhaps put a thin layer of installation on it. Just don’t want it sitting around my garage. I know “petty”

Re: Thinking of a quilted boxes

    Great guidance,
    Thanks folks.
I’ll add the #8 hardware cloth, about a of an inch or so above the bottom so it will give me a little extra room over the top bars (feeding, patties…etc.)

    Thinking of a quilted boxes

Never thought about a quilt box till this year.
I have three strong hives going into winter.
I have an old deep, so I would cut three sections out of it, width of 2-3 inches, add some ventilations...

In the Build it yourself page they have two options for the frame for an SBB. One with lap joints the other just cutting a square out of a piece of plywood. I have built a SSB with lap joints but was...

Re: Screened bottom boards ok for winter?

I close mine in the winter, but drill a few holes in the boards and add a couple shims under the inner cover for ventilation thinking it helps remove moisture

    Building up a second deep

    Hi all,
    I have three hives.
One Hive (hive 1) swarmed at the end of May. That hive now, a single deep, is doing well. It took a while to build up, not sure why.
The other two hives (hives 2 and...

    Re: Oh Well, Bye, Bye

When I go into the hive and if there are still a lot of bee's, can I take a frame with a queen cell on it put it in a NUC, with say 3 more frames of brood and honey, or, is that crazy talk.

    Oh Well, Bye, Bye

So I thought things were going perfect. Hive made it thru the winter, I reversed the top and the bottom box, put some empty frames in and added two supers. Just was out side and I heard bees buzzing....

    Re: Second Super, when?

So I love the drawn comb idea. However I only have drawn comb for deeps, but not the supers, that’s another issue. I do crush and strain too so unless I’m missing something I will never have drawn...

    Second Super, when?

    First the question:
I’m starting my fourth year of beekeeping. I have only gotten honey once and that was during the fall flow (33 pounds.) This year I had a hive make it through winter ( I treated)...
  17. Re: What feeding ratio for new nuc in CT/Feeder Tweaks

I have the same feeder too. I had a lot of dead bees my first year so the next year I lined the inside with #8 hardware cloth. I was surprised how well it worked. It was for 10 frame deeps....

Re: Frams of Honey or Top Feeder

    Thanks for the response Michael,
I figured the bees needed extra resources (feeding) to build out the foundation in the second deep faster.

Frams of Honey or Top Feeder

    Reversal and Feeding

    Hi all,
I reversed my hive yesterday. The top deep had brood and honey in it, probably weighted 50 lb and lots of bees. The bottom deep was pretty empty and had hardly any weight to it.
    I had a...
