Why don't you just use your Langstroth hive and manage it Warre style? Just don't add foundation in the frames. That way, you don't have to build anything new.
They may also be tired of their beekeeper frequently peeking in on them. :-)
Plus, they may actually be building a comb within the clump. I suggest you try to let them be for a while unless you...
Impressive, huh? :-)
Here's a link that shows measurements in inches.

And here's a link that shows how to make a bait hive using a Warre hive box....
It looks like this link.

Hi Beemartin,
How do you refill your jar feeder? Do you take off the roof and quilt to get to the jar? And is the jar sitting on the top bars of the bottom box? If so, you might want to build a...
I do have a concern though. I noticed you sprayed the bees with sugar water first and then poured powdered sugar on them before pouring them into the hive. Wouldn't those two combination defeat the...
Hi Tony,
Interesting video. You are right, I've never seen anyone add sugar powder in the package before installing them in the hive. Please keep us posted on your bees' progress.
Thanks...
Do a search on racoons in this forum and you'll read a few complaints of what they can do.
To Honey-4-all:
The OP said he only has one hive. It shouldn't take him long to unstrap and do whatever he needs to do with his hive. Better than having the coons get into his hive and chowing...
How about strapping the whole hive down and anchoring them to the ground with mobile home anchors or T-posts to keep the coons from opening it?
Cool! Do you have specs on how to build one?

To Bernhard,
How many hives do you have now?
One more observation. Because you are not using a regular Warre style roof, the cloth in your quilt would likely absorb rain water when it's raining out. So your roof modification may not be a good...
You have some very interesting modifications. I think I'll copy the half frame idea with screws for spacing. The top feeder idea seems okay. However, when I used a similar style that I bought from...
SHB = small hive beetle. Their larvae goes down into the soil to start their life cycle.
Here are a couple of links that might help.

Yes He is! And He's coming back for His own soon.

To Eccentricbeekeeper,
Your Comb honey sure looks yummy!
May I suggest you put ladders in the empty box to encourage the bees to build down?
I don't know if it would make your honey/wax taste funny but I strongly believe it helped my bees stay healthy. I did not do any kind of treatment with them last year except for adding some...
Great link. Thanks for sharing.
