Re: Fall pollen substitute feeding, helpful?

Has anyone tried putting a patty on the bottom board instead of on top of the brood nest for ease? I just don't want to smoke the hive and take the supers off just to put a patty on the brood nest -...

    Bee Friendly Privacy Shrub

Are there good privacy shrubs that will also provide nectar for bees to make honey? I am considering either privet (ligustrum) or camelias. I live in South Carolina, in the Piedmont. The shrub needs...

Re: Bucket of syrup feeder with pine needles

I am not aware of other bee hives near me, but maybe there are. What feeder do you recommend that is easier than feeding each individual hive, i.e. taking off each cover. This can get a bit daunting...

Bucket of syrup feeder with pine needles

Has anyone used a large bucket of syrup in the middle of their apiary with pine needles (to prevent drowning) and just fed all your bees at one time this way? This seems to save a lot of work, but...

Re: When to Quit adding Supers

Thanks for your help. I just put the super back on. Maybe 2 frames were drawn with comb, the other 7 were not.

Re: When to Quit adding Supers

Thanks Joseph. So you don't think they will slow down finishing the top 2 supers that are not quite filled yet? I just didn't want them to slow down finishing those up since the season was...

    When to Quit adding Supers

It's now late August. I have 2 supers full of comb and filling fast with nectar - frames are getting quite heavy. Also have a deep and medium hive body pretty full too. Should I continue to apply the...

    Re: Untreated hive management

Do you put the terramycin in the brood area? Do you do this before they are making honey in the super or does it matter?

    Re: Sunshine and Location

thanks for all of your comments. I think it looks like the full sun has it to be safe. Its interesting to read in an authoritative book that "dappled" sun is the way to go, but then drive around town...

    Re: Sunshine and Location

Thanks Claressa. Very Helpful. Should the ventilated bottom board be used in the winter too, or put the non-ventiliated one back on it?

What about a hole drilled into it. I just bought the starter...

Re: when to use bee lures

thanks, I looked at the distance on Google Maps. Let me think about this. I also emailed someone else on the forum to see if they are driving by on their route to drop off bees. Thanks for alerting...

Re: when to use bee lures

Do you recommend put the swarm lure in a hive or a trap. I would love to save money and put it in the hive instead of a trap if possible. I am new and missed the season for purachasing bees.
