I am having a debate with another bee dork about propolis and its definition. I think that propolis is made by the bees by combining tree resin, pollen, wax and enzymes. The other dork thinks that...

Re: can african bees be in va already

Either way get the hive requeened. Whether they are Africanized or not, bees that hot should be requeened. What happens next time youi walk by the hive without your veil no to mention the potential...
  4. Re: Any way to head off a swarm (might be too late!)

Re: Replacing two laying worker hives

yes place the nucs at night or anytime really. Just don't open the nucs and then move the nucs. Do it all at once, move the hive and place the nuc.

Place the new nucs on the stands of the laying worker hive and move the laying worker hive a couple of feet away and face it in a different direction. The foragers will fly into your new nuc and...

Re: Inner cover glued to outer cover

I use what I call and inner cover inner cover. I put a flat piece of plywood on top of my inner cover and then the telescoping top. It keeps the top from being glued downd and is easier to manage...
  10. Re: Transition from bottom entrance to top entrance

    Pollen Build Up

We have had an unusually warm spring and most everything has swarmed no matter what you did. In the aftermath I am finding an unusual amount of pollen stores. I am talking about frames solid full...

Re: Was given wrong variety of bees at pickup

Swarmy? Italians are swarmy. Just give them room and they will be fine. Carnis are the only bees I'll keep. Better overwintering characteristics beat any swarming concerns.
