Adamant, I beleive in my reading that the rules are: honey is hygroscopic meaning it can give off moisture and can gain moisture. At a humidity level above 40% it gains moisture and below 40% it...
Either way get the hive requeened. Whether they are Africanized or not, bees that hot should be requeened. What happens next time youi walk by the hive without your veil no to mention the potential...
Mike,
If finding the queen was not an issue, would it be better or make a difference if the old queen was placed at the old location with just the foragers going back to her?
yes place the nucs at night or anytime really. Just don't open the nucs and then move the nucs. Do it all at once, move the hive and place the nuc.
Place the new nucs on the stands of the laying worker hive and move the laying worker hive a couple of feet away and face it in a different direction. The foragers will fly into your new nuc and...

Keth, I have one hive set up just like that and I have one piece of 1/4 inch plywood that goes over the inner cover and then the telescoping top goes on. So when I take the lid off I can then pry...
I use what I call and inner cover inner cover. I put a flat piece of plywood on top of my inner cover and then the telescoping top. It keeps the top from being glued downd and is easier to manage...
I changed about 10 hives to an entrance above the brood chambers from a bottom entrance this spring. If you just close the bottom entrance when they are in, as stated above they all go to the old...
I harvest uncapped honey all the time but I take my meter with me to the field and check first!!! It can be at the right moisture even if it is uncapped but not a guarantee. Also I have harvested...
This is just my 3rd year and I am only running 15 production hives and a bunch of nucs but I have not seen this until this spring. For me it relates to the warm weather and the early build up. It...
I think if I caught the same queen three times swarming; I would say her number was up.LOL
We have had an unusually warm spring and most everything has swarmed no matter what you did. In the aftermath I am finding an unusual amount of pollen stores. I am talking about frames solid full...
And I am from that county in Ohio and from the bee club from that county that became so toxic, that last month the membership voted 24 to 1 to disband the bee club. So we did, and gave all our...
I have had swarms that looked like they fit in a 10 frame but realy needed both deeps. Look inside and see if they are layered on the frames. If they are give them another box and stand back and...
Michael, you forgot one thing; even if it does make sence to you it does not always make sence to the bees.LOL
Why don't you just give them a frame of eggs and see what happens. You could also tear down they QC you have and let them make from a known frame of eggs. I hate to advise anyone to tear down QC...
I have taken a full working hive and put it in place of a laying worker hive and shook the bees out in front and they all flue in and life was good. The difference is that the working hive I put in...
I have had success by taking a queenright hive and placing it on the laying worker stand in place of that hive. Then shake the bees out away from the hive and they will return to the queenright...
I did this with 2 people. The deal was that i would sell them their honey back to them at $5 a pound in a jar. Still not worth it. Someone who wants you to manage their hives usually has not...
I would not buy a nuc from someone who does frame exchanges. It's like dating a hooker, you never know what diseases you come away with.
We just added 2 scales to one that was already doing it. One will be beside the current scale and one will be about 2 miles away. I'm excited about the getting the data. I was able to get 2 feed...
Swarmy? Italians are swarmy. Just give them room and they will be fine. Carnis are the only bees I'll keep. Better overwintering characteristics beat any swarming concerns.
I have seen young drones for the last week on the frames here in central Ohio, not any flying.
