  1. Re: Is now and OK time to requeen in the northeast?

Way too late for that in this climate. Wait until spring... my bees are corralling and dragging out drones right now.

    Re: Herbicide

Well, this study "speculates" and uses "acute doses" to determine problems. I don't think spraying a few weeds rises to that level. Also there is stuff on Pub Med all the time that is suspect and...

    Re: Jester's EZ NUC

I've used a lot of them. They work quite well are well designed and hold up. I have some that I've used 4-5 times outside and most of those for 2-3 months.

    Re: Rim on Migratory Covers

yes but it makes those covers easier to take off. they don't get glued to the top bars. I leave a lot of it in place unless I'm pulling a lot of frames.
  10. Re: Are 3 - 7 day intervals of OAV treatment adequate

I do it 4X a week apart with good results.

I'd wait an hour or so to let them calm down. My understanding is that the exposure is almost immediate.

    Re: THickness for pants

I wear Carthart's - they are thick enough that most stings don't penetrate and are not painful if they do... and I love the pockets for my hive tool, phone, etc.

Re: Neighbor using Roundup weed killer.

I spray it in front of my hives to control the weeds. Never had a problem.

    Re: Broken frame within Nuc

Just carry a cordless drill, put a couple screws into the top bar and set it back in the hive. I have a few like that and since brood combs are not that heavy I have reused them several times.

Ben, make sure the 6 volt is strong enough - I went with the 12V because I felt it would give more protection.

Put that pollen patty UNDER the inner cover, right over where the bees are drawing comb. I would put the inner cover [don't use them] on top of the empty box so the bees can access the syrup more...

My son was called retarded because of learning disabilities. He is also a college grad and a CEO of a company [much smaller]. We hold back many people with classifications and words. Nice post!
  22. Re: Where/how do you store all your bee equipment to keep away from pests?

I spray the top bars of all my drawn comb with acetic acid and stack the boxes on a solid piece of plywood. Works very well so far. No wax moth damage and supposed to kill nosema spores too.
