    Re: how many supers

Wow, I'd love to have 3 supers per hive. I have 1 super on my hive, and even though it has been on since March, it's not yet full. We have had very strange weather this year, so I'm not sure if...
  2. Re: Laying Worker Shake-out, will the laying worker enter a functioning hive?

I used his method of adding a frame of brood every week for 3 weeks. It seems to have worked. The queen cell hatched, but I haven't found her or eggs yet (more importantly, no laying worker eggs...

Checked on a split that had laying workers. I added frames for 2 weeks and they were making queen cells, plus I moved a frame with a capped queen cell over a couple of weeks ago. Looked in it...

Re: Need Advice Prepping for Extraction

I wish I had 3 supers on my hive. I just have the one, and it's not even 1/2 full yet. Dang drought.

Re: Life after a Swarm... Now What?!?

Does your population in the hives look down? Because if they don't, you may have just had a supersedure (replacing the queen) instead of a swarm. Or you could have accidentally squished the queen...

Sticky: Re: Today in the Apiary

Week 2 of adding brood/eggs to my queen less split. I got lucky and my main hive had 3 capped queen cells. 1 queen cell was on a frame loaded with eggs, so that is the one I moved over.

    So with...

Re: When is too late to do a split?

I don't know, but I did mine in mid May, and it's still not going. My queen didn't get mated well (thunderstorms during mating flight time), somewhere along the way they killed her and tried to...

Glad you got that on video. What jerks. I'd be furious.

I'm still pretty new, but it sounds like you may have had a swarm.

Re: New split and I'm now confused.

Thank you. I read that weeks ago, but I guess it didn't sink in. At that time, I thought I had a queen, which I probably did, but I don't have one now.

Awesome solution, I will get started on it.

I'd like to know also. If that's how to fix it, I can do that, but I'd like to know how it works too.

Re: New split and I'm now confused.

Checked on the split today, and my suspicions were confirmed. The queen cells never hatched, and I have a laying worker as there is only drone brood. I plan to shake them out in front of my main...

Re: Anyone know what tree this is?

We have bushes and trees that look similar, and I was told they are a type of privet. They are in bloom here as well.

    Re: Queen Identification

As others have said, that is not your queen. You do not necessarily need to find the queen. If you have eggs/larva, then your queen is likely there.

A queen can be sneaky to find. Usually I...

    Re: Swarmed or not swarmed?

I'm still pretty new, so take this with a grain of salt, but if you keep destroying the queen cells and they keep making them, then the queen is likely still in there somewhere. Queen cells are made...

It does? I didn't see it when I was there, but that place is massive.
  25. Re: I'm not sure ? Robbing or my bees attempting to swarm ?

I had one yesterday determined to keep me away. I got into the hive briefly to check the super and make sure they still had room. This one bee was following me as I was walking away and buzzing at...
