I'm a small time bee keeper. 30 hives this year at some point plan to be at 100 but don't think I will go higher than that. I'm about 60 miles north of Minneapolis. I'm looking to have my bees...

This is my second year raising queens which is why I ask this question.
I followed a program taught by the university of MN for doing my queen rearing. This year I felt I was successfull since I...
I've never used this method on a queenless hive. I take all the frames out of the nuc and put right in the hive.
Just talked to them. Sounds like the holes are big enough for drones to escape but to small for workers dragging the dead bees out.
I've got two Sundance Pollen Traps that go on the bottom. From the most part I think they are working fine. Collecting 6 - 8 oz a day for the past week.
Issue 1. The bee escapses keep getting...
Use a double screen between hives. 3/4 inch frame with screen on both sides, 1/8 inch or smAller screen size.
I use Bild-Rite. You can buy it at Home-Depot, Lowes, Menards. I have about 20 hives so it's cheaper buying the 4 x 8 sheets and cutting them for all my hives. Many of the Bee Keepers in my area...
I'm in MN and what I typically do is use a double screened board on top of a strong two deep colony. Put the entrance hole to the back of the two deep. The heat from below hive will help your top...
My neighbor has a corn feeder for the deer. She called me over one afternoon to show me that our honey bees were picking through the corn. Their must have been 1000 bees or so going crazy over the...
Thanks
Yeah, i will have to do this next year. I am changing my shed to provide a honey room where I could control this. Right now I don't have that.
I waited as long as I could to harvest my honey. 90% was capped but my moisture level is about 19.2 - 20 in some. It tastes great and I guess if I UAE it fast it won't ferment, but wanted to see...
The final update.
The design is great. The thermostat shuts off at the right time and I can keep it at 100 degrees which works great. Ive warmed 2 five gallon pails in 12 hours and filtered...
So if you keep this in your queen less hive builder, how long do you keep them? How do you replenish bees as they die off since you don't have a queen laying eggs in your cell builder?
If it's not a lot of bees and the rest of your bees stayed put, most likely you got the queen. Check for eggs in a week. Put some syrup on for the first week. I even throw pollen patties on mine...
Quick Update
Project is complete and I used the plans shown on the site. Basically 2 100 watt bulbs. The reptile thermostat for 24.00 works great. The project took about 1 - 2 hours to assemble...
Now I'm really curious
I've got a friend I'm mentoring and he's learning the hard way. He doesn't come every weekend and work the bee's to make sure she has room and to prevent swarming. He had...
Exciting, I did my grafting for the first time this week too. I took a three day class at the University of MN. Some tips I can give you from my own experience
1. Use a completely dark room. I...
I've just grafted my first set of queens. I take them out of the swarm box tonight and put them back in the finishing colony. I plan to put them in Nucs when they emerge.
What's they typical...
I took the course at University of MN, not sure how many people use this method.
I caged my queen last night on the frame I want her to lay eggs on so I can Graft in 4 days and all the eggs will...
Thanks
Very usefull information. I'm going to try a different thermostat control first to see if this works before the bigger investment. I found a thermostat control for reptiles. ...
All
Thanks for the responses and this has been helpfull. Some key points I'm taking away from this.
1. Always place her back on the frame.
2. Wait a few minutes for paint to dry.
3. I...
I didn't react quick enough to save her.
Testers enamel paint.
No, it was a really week colony and I was planning to replace her in two weeks. I've been practicing marking on drones and...
Anyone make the honey heater? If so, where do you find the remote bulb thermostat? I've found a couple online but not sure if they will work.
Btw is it worth making?
I just started marking my own queens. I marked the queen and placed her back on the frame. The bees balled on top of her an killed her.
Has anyone experienced this? What should I have done...
Thanks to you all this has been very helpfull.
