Re: Advice on Honey B Healthy

1 to 1 syrup will do what you want just fine. I add 1 tbsp of bleach per 5 gal of syrup to keep it from fermenting. I have never used hbh or have seen a need to.

    Re: Hive Ventilation and Beetles

I have switched to migratory lids with no innercovers and staple a 3/8 inch rim on underside with a 1 inch entrance in front. That way I get ventilation and the rim gives space so bees can patrol top...

Re: Bees getting past follower board?

Leave a small opening on far end of entrance so they can get out easier. If it's only a few bees , I wouldn't worry much. Nature will weed out the stubborn ones that make bad decisions.

    Re: Requeening above an excluder

There was a large commercial outfit , not in US that requeened it's hives by placing capped queen cells up in the honey supers, if I remember correctly. They had a high percentage of success.

Honey robber works well . I pull supers by myself and for me it works better than leaf blower and doesn't start a war like brushing them off the frames does. Next year I am going to go with bee go....

  14. Re: Seasoned beekeeper question regarding beeyard comptition

  16. Re: bees not drawing comb on honey super w QE

You have to bait the bees to work above the excluder. You can put feeder back on the top of the hive and that will encourage them to draw out super if your flow is over. Leave feeder on until...

    Re: Bees in East Africa

Thanks for posting, very interesting. African bees are true survivors and they handle them with no protection just smoke!
