    Re: Bees really hammered me

OK, this isn't funny now. :(

I did an OAV last night on a hive at my house that I knew had mites that needed hit. I was planning on doing Hopguard II, and did at my outlying yard but it was such...

Re: Extract multiple times or just once?

June full moon is the honey moon! Right? We extracted our spring honey from the supers. A very nice light golden honey. The fall flow will be the wildflowers and much darker. I like it better,...
  3. Re: Pricing to Cooperate not Compete with Fellow Beekeepers

I've been selling mine at $8.00 a lb. I had a super off of a wild hive that was dark and thick, I sold that with a description of "wild hive, very limited supply" for $10 a lb and it's sold out...

    Re: Oxalic Acid Vapor Wiff

    I don't argue semantics.

Regardless of the labeling on the package, it is stilll an acid and should be treated accordingly.

    Re: Oxalic Acid Vapor Wiff

Not a pesticide. It is vaporized acid and should be given more respect. Acid will destroy tissue. Lung tissue doesn't like to regenerate.

Breathing OAV would be like a lifetime of smoking, on...

Re: BEEKool ventilated suit from Blue Sky

I also prefer the domed helmet/veil configuration for much the same reasons. I also feel that it is cooler that way.

Re: The wasted work advantage of Langstroths.

That is what I was told by a Master Beekeeper when I started. They don't seem to do very well up here from what I've been told.

The explanation was that it was harder for them to break cluster...

Re: The wasted work advantage of Langstroths.

I also was given to believe that top bar hives are only good for temperate climates. Not suitable for wintering over a colony in frigid climes?

    Re: Yearly Hive Loss

Before I put proper emphasis on mites, I lost both hives two years in a row. Now I got 100% through winter. I was sooooooo happy. OAV, gotta believe.

    Re: Bees getting grumpier?

Rusty, you are wise beyond your years. The guy that I initially learned from and got my nucs from was a no veil T-shirt kind of guy. I got away with it for awhile. Then I didn't. It wasn't worth...

Re: What Price Should I Sell A Pint of Honey For

We're over in Geneseo, IL, I think we're going with $8 a lb. Although after seeing what the Chicago Coop gets, I'm half tempted to go to $10! :)

That is the latest routing. China sells to A South American company. They re-label as a product of South America and ship to the US. Been several of those found lately.

I was replying in agreement to your comment pertaining to Arnies harbor freight quickstart set up. You are right, that kind of a set up will work fine.

    Re: Battery for Oxalic Vapor

Yes, it will, it's got a self contained battery in there. It is not just a battery charger. It's a complete unit, charger and battery all in one unit.

    Re: Honey extractor

I would just do it. I bought a 2 frame tangential, once you get past 2 or 3 supers you'll be hating that thing. If you're planning on sticking with it, get the 3100 or equivalent. I am.
