Re: Would you treat with OAV now?

Re: I will never buy packages again.

FWIW- As a newbee, in 2010, I started 3 Ga. pkgs. 2 of them and severals splits are still going. In 2011, I got 3 Ga. pkgs. All 3, plus several splits, are still going. They've been through Ohio...

Re: bees only heat the cluster?

This reminds me of an expression meaning 'confusion' that begins with the word 'cluster'.

  10. Re: Already ordered a nuc for spring, but now in love with top bar hives...

There are a lot of advantages to starting with more than one colony. Maybe you should also get a package and start one of each type. I did both and eventually gave up on the TBH.

Re: Bottling Tank using the Maxant No Drip Valve

If, by warm, you mean doing it in July, then yes. I strain straight out of the extractor. It's really not been a big deal, just means I keep the last inch or so from the last bucket. I would anyway,...

Re: Bottling Tank using the Maxant No Drip Valve

Sure, but I still get a layer of something on top that looks unattractive in jars. When I get down to the last of the last, it stays here at home.

Re: Bottling Tank using the Maxant No Drip Valve

When I get toward the bottom, I just prop up the back. If I bottle the very last honey in the tank, I get wax and scum in the jars.
