Re: Trap out from under a shed

Wow thanks guys! You do make it sound easy. I will have owner do the cuts if we end up going that way. He can be out of there when I lift the flooring.

I placed this yesterday; I give it 3 days...

    Re: finally, fall flow!

Brazilian Pepper--here in abundance--is just beginning to bloom in SW Florida. It lasts about 6 weeks and so far I get a harvest every year from it. There are some other trees blooming that bees are...

    Re: fume board honey harvest

Are you using Bee Go, the really strong stuff? If so, it only takes a few minutes for bees to clear supers. Plus, if you leave Bee Go on too long, you will bring home supers that smell like Bee Go....

Re: Trap out from under a shed

In other words, not one single vote for the trap out.
As I've already started the process I'm going to give it a few days and see what happens. Today I'm taking over the cone board and...

Re: Trap out from under a shed

That has to be some pretty narrow comb under there. I don't know if he owns a jack, I can ask. How far up, how many jacks, without fear of tipping it over? Is a foot too much if we tried that? I'm...

Trap out from under a shed

The only reason I'm attempting this trap out is because it's the neighbor of my grandkids, and this backyard has a swing set where my grandkids and others play. I don't have much hope for success.

    Re: Hive removal ?

I agree about not trying to save the honey when framing the comb. Stay with brood and pollen. Bring a big container with lid to put the honeycomb in and keep it covered while you work.
    Will you...
  10. Re: Bright Orange Pollen in Greece, NY?

Here are the colors from the past 3 days here in south Florida. 2 weeks ago, barely any orange pollen but now they're bringing in much more. I know there is an orange flower/weed blooming right now,...

Re: A plan to increase honey production

What great replies. I'm going to try it with 2 or 3 hives and bring the queen right nuks to my back yard for close management. I will try with a couple good hives, not my best hives as I don't want...

Re: Combine or not to Combine?

I don't have top bar hives so take this for what it's worth. I have combined by pulling undesired queen, wait for about 20 min, then mist spray the bees and frames with sugar syrup (with a drop of...

A plan to increase honey production

Brazillian Pepper is getting ready to bloom here in SW FL. It's typically a strong nectar flow. I had a very poor spring harvest and I'd like to make up for it this fall.

    My thought was to pull...
  14. Re: Getting ants out of collected pollen

    Oh yes, definitely!

I had noticed the same thing, when I emptied the Brushy trap drawer then set container on top of a hive while replacing drawer. I watched for awhile and it seemed they were...

  17. Getting ants out of collected pollen

I want to share this in case anyone else ever comes across this problem.

I put a front plastic Brushy Mnt pollen trap on a hive over a month ago. At first it worked ok, as long as I kept emptying...

Re: Chunk honey with liquid honey

I sell mine by the half pint, and then it's fairly easy to cut the comb so that it's as tall as the jar, and narrow enough to go through the lid. Standing up so you see the capped sides--does that...

They are living happily in my back yard now, collecting melaleuka nectar, and Brazillian Pepper starts in a couple weeks. I will be sure to get some of the honey to you Cleo. Thanks again!

  21. Re: I've got 1600 lbs of honey, now what?

I had that problem too after spring harvest last year. Farmer's markets full, I can't sell to stores, because of Florida laws I can only sell face to face unless I want go commercial.

    I started...
