Re: Wintering Inner Cover or Shims

A friend of mine likes these "http://www.honeyrunapiaries.com/shop/woodenware/woodenware-10frame/all-season-inner-cover". I make my own.

    Re: Oxalic Acid Treatment Question

Because if you have high mite levels in August and September, you won't be treating healthy bees in November. Their virus load could be sky high. You want the bees raised for the winter to be...

Re: Is it really worth it

I doubt it truly helps my bees a lot, or adds to the flow, but we do get a lot of enjoyment from seeing the girls enjoying the many plants, and trees, we have in our yard. I truly enjoy seeing them...

    Re: Fall feeders

Ben, How about going with this "FD-109 10 Frame Top Feeder Insert". These are plastic feeder inserts that wont leak. Just caulk the screen after it is installed and the bees can't visit you. They...

Re: Apiguard problem or Robbing or Both

When I use ApiGuard, the bees beard the hive since they don't want to be around the vapors. I'd be very surprised if it caused robbing, unless so many left the hive that they can't protect it. They...

    Re: 9 frame spacers

I like running 9 frames in a 10 frame box for my supers. I find it's easier to uncap when they build it out further. I don't use spacers though. I just use a spacing tool that I run between the...

Re: Losing queens like crazy! A puzzler...

Were they all packages you started this year? Where did you get your queens? If you look on the "For Sale" forum here you may find some people with queens still available. I wouldn't count on them...

    Re: Wax Moths Under Screen

Keep the hives strong, don't give them more space than the bees can cover, keep the entrance size appropriate for the number of bees, and you should be fine. Wax moths are not an issue unless the...

    Re: ULTRABREEZE JACKET - PULLOVER?

I use mine the same way as Mark. I also have the full suit and use it the same way. I only remove the hood when it's time to for it to go in the washer.

Re: NUC'S AND LATE SEASON SWARMS.

Stan, That a great idea if the issue is heat, but my nucs have been so full of bees that I'm sure it wouldn't have been enough. If mine were in a sunny location I probably would have cracked the...

Re: NUC'S AND LATE SEASON SWARMS.

Glock, Michael Palmer warned me at EAS in Kentucky about this. I told him I was using his method for raising nucs, and he said " It's getting, no it already is, hot in your area. You better make...

  18. Re: Reviews and Questions on Megabee Winter Patties

Thanks, Joan. I'm sure the OP is talking about the Dadant patties. They were the only one available until Mann Lake started making winter patties this year. The Dadant ones are the only ones that...
  19. Re: Reviews and Questions on Megabee Winter Patties

I just store them at basement temp. They are carbs. I freeze my pollen patties that I make so the nutrient value doesn't drop too quickly.
  20. Re: Reviews and Questions on Megabee Winter Patties

    1) What do people think of them? I've been using them for years for winter feed when needed. I really like them for nucs. I give all a patty when I say goodbye for the winter and check on nice days...

    Re: Mite season is here!

Did a sugar roll on one of my hives today that should have had lower mite levels due to brood breaks. The VSH queen hive had about a 6 % infestation rate. Needless to say, all hives in the yard got...

    Re: Aggressive Bees

It's not too late to re-queen where I am, so you should have no problem. I always re-queen hot hives if the behavior continues. I'd check for mites, treat if needed, and order queens. You'll be...
