    Re: Accidental Beehive

I would agree with green2btree to use the rigid foam insulation. If you relocate into a nuc, they won't be able to draw new comb or re-attach removed comb. I think you've done what you can for them....
  2. Re: Bees hanging out on neighbors porch--what to do ?

If you have it available to you, a small nuc with some drawn comb sat beside the plastic box (as high as the bees are off the ground, and right next to the plastic box) may be enough to entice them...

Re: INSTALLING HONEY GATE ON 5 GALLON BUCKET

I just ordered 10 off eBay. We've got 4 beekeepers here where I work...we'll give them a try. Thanks for the info!!
  5. Re: Removing queen cells from plastic foundation.

I've done what RayMarler is doing with the hive tool. I was advised by somebody to just go very slowly, which helped pick up my success rate of getting them off the plastic in one piece. This was...

    Re: Bees and honey year

In my 3rd year, and this will be my first year of taking honey. Five hives are doing well in Mill Creek (1), Sandy (1) & clear over in Vernal (3), Utah.

    Re: Jealous new swarmer

Our area has several bee clubs that each have their own FB page. Quite often swarm calls are placed on those pages by other beekeepers who get a call, but can't get to it, and they are generally...
  8. Caught my fourth swarm out of the same tree in a week...

Was fortunate to have somebody lead me to a local university to capture a swarm in a tree. There happened to be two in the tree...one much smaller. Next day I answered another Facebook post and it...

Re: swarm moved in this morning

Congrats on the catch! I'm glad you got back just in the nick of time to see them come in...how cool is that? Also glad you posted about trying to post a picture...I have the exact problem and I...
  11. Swarms began flying in the SLC, UT area today

I heard about three separate swarms today in the Salt Lake City area. Swarm cells were being reported at the beginning of the week. Looking forward to catching many in bait hives or just hanging...

    Re: Package Installation

Not a problem...I have 3 hives (each two deep) that are all empty drawn comb...plenty of space for each of the Q's to lay! Thanks for the input!

    Re: Package Installation

I had the same question this morning. So now the question is this - Should I give the one box any frames that are not drawn out so they have a place to put wax, or is the hive better served having...

    Re: First Swarm Caught!

Everybody's different, but I would go ahead and move them tonight...it sounds like you got the whole swarm. I'd close them up in a deep, or two, worth of boxes, along with some drawn comb, if you've...

  16. Re: when can I open+feed a swarm in a swarm-trap?

Stavros - I'm sure you've probably caught a swarm, but the mention of having pollen in the trap led my mind back to last wk-end when I put out a swarm trap and within a day or two I had a couple...
  17. Re: Newbee requested to remove swarm. What now?

I've got the swarm pole made with the 5 gal bucket and a metal flag pole bracket (plastic brackets breaks too easily). I like the idea of a pole with a hook to shake the bees...especially after I've...

Re: Trapping Experts, Will this Work?

One other thought regarding using the 10 frame medium is don't use all 10 frames...just use 5, centered and nailed on each corner with a 1" brad (or similar) to keep the frames from moving on you. I...

    Re: Atv / utv ?

I know this thread is over 1 yr old, but grateful somebody has spoke on this. I'm going at the ATV thing a bit bass-ackwards...my wife got me a Yamaha 350 Grizzly for Christmas and she tried to...
  22. Re: Black Friday @ Lowes: Werner Aluminum Work Platform

Looking to find this same deal, but don't see it posted (yet?) on Lowe's website. In fact, I don't even see this work platform advertised as a non-sale item. Anybody seeing something that I'm...

Re: Stealth D. Coates Nuc Swarm Trap

Nice job on these...I like the wingnuts & the fact that they are made out of boards instead of plywood.
  24. Re: How long until swarm has good laying pattern?

If the queen was a laying queen right from the start, she would have older brood (thus, darker colored brood) than a virgin queen would have...it would take a virgin queen 3-4 weeks (depending on...
