    Re: Definitive signs of robbing?

What kind of feeder do you use?
How many hive bodies is that hive in?

    Re: Creamed Honey

I am new in this but what I heard is to place 10% of honey in the refrigerator until it crystallizes and then grind well and stir it into the rest of the honey.
    Creamed honey is not whipped.

Re: Help please. ? Bumblebee queen?

    Daniel, you totally misunderstood my.
I am against killing those bumble bees and I clearly stated that they are important pollinators.

Re: Help please. ? Bumblebee queen?

Honey bees can also attack and kill your honey bees, does that mean you should kill your hives?
Bumble bees are also important pollinators, the main difference is that they are not as suitable for...

Re: Would this hive stand work?

It works well as long as the mite board is flat.
If the board is warped, the debris gets wiped off.

Re: Would this hive stand work?

    We made something similar.
We attached two boards to the bottom of the sides of the screen bottom boards.
The boards are as long as the bottom board and wider then the thickness of the hive walls....

    Re: Staggering bee

Unfortunately this is our only hive.
Our first inspection is scheduled for Friday, should we perform a sugar roll mite count?
Also is giving the bees warmed syrup a good idea?

    Staggering bee

We hived a package two days ago and today I saw a bee staggering around on the landing board.
She eventually fell of the landing board and continued staggering around on the ground.
    She appeared...

Sorry if I am asking too many questions, but what about the four frames?
What was on them and what did you do with them?
  10. Re: Puzzle of the day..What does this frame tell me?

Capped brood in center, new comb on lower right, drone comb on lower left, capped honey on both top corners, empty comb on lower middle.

Re: Pros and cons of screened inner covers

Use that to your advantage by setting glue traps on the screen.
Phoebee agrees with that(See thread "War with the SHB Terroists!!")

Re: 4 week old package - add new hive body?

If you jar feed them through the hole in the inner cover there will be still less space.
Probably time to add another hive body.
Are many bees not bringing in pollen?
If so maybe feeding is no...

    Re: Newbee from Pittsburgh

We live several miles east of Downtown.

Is it necessary to treat the bees for mites with PS before hiving them?
Should the bees be poured on the bottom board or on the top bars?
    Where should I...

    Re: Newbee from Pittsburgh

The early May one is from Mountain Sweet Honey and the other two are from Kelley Bees, I do not blame them; the spring is slow this year.
I will read up on EO's since I don't really know much about...

I don't know, perhaps her exoskeleton deflected the sting.
You can check the brood when it becomes capped, if the cappings protrude conspicuously from the surface you have a problem.

    Re: Queen question

How many eggs are in each cell?
If only one: the queen probably survived,
If many cells have more than one egg: probably laying workers.

Re: Hello new beek here from Utah!

Definitely do not inspect them every day, but you could check the entrance as often as you want.
See if there are bees bringing in pollen and propolis, just don't stand in their way.

    Re: beekeeping is fun!

I heard that gloves make you get stung more.
The reasoning is that they make you more clumsy and thus more likely to crush bees or drop a frame.
Has this happened to any of you?

You can try baggie feeding, the Ten Frame Baggie Feeder from Brushy Mountain is simply a 2.75 inch shim made of 3/4 inch lumber.

  25. Poll: Re: Do you believe that glued frames are stronger than non-glued?

If the same fasteners are used than glued frames would definitely be stronger.
If using only nails, make sure there are horizontal nails connecting the top bar to the side bars.
    Or else, without...
