No eggs in the RR super. The bees would go in the super but mostly just stayed on the outside of the plastic frames. Maybe around a hundred bees in the frames but they never did anything
no,
RT's book says it is for easier manipulation of the deep frames.
I had a 10 frame deep that was full of bees, beautiful brood pattern on all the frames, both sides except the outside frames and even they had brood on the inside, above it I had a full medium super...
pests are the main concern
I had a nuc of SKC. They swarmed first thing this year. Brood chamber was open but bees swarmed anyway. Ona positive note they were beautiful!!!
bonterra bees is a sponsor and they make a good observation hive, I have the double deep 8frame.
There is no such thing as a free education!
I think you learned your lesson. Practice on drones. Always make a few practice dots on something before you mark the queen. Mark your queens if you like,...
drone bee larvae is my guess
yes, put a cage on the open hive, if they go crazy like they are trying to kill something they already have a queen. there is a video of it on youtube but I can't remember the author. You should be...
I tried to add a poll but it didn't work. I run a 10 frame deep with 10 frames and the medium above it I got both 9 and 10 frames. I agree you got to draw them out as 10 frames. I just wonder on you...
When running a 10 frame deep and medium setup, how many frames in each?
I would only take the good wide frames to someone else to extract. So about 30 pounds on extracted honey in a medium?
I would pay $7 a super easy!
what about 2013 rates?
sumac seed pods seem to work great and you can gather alot of them along almost any road.
I like the above video of fatbeeman!
I bet she is there or you would have found her dead. She might have flew off or something but she probably made it back to the hive, either walked back or flew back.
this killed my observation hive for the last two years, at least I think it was this
Greg,
respectfully, I disagree. It was not the kind of balling to kill her. It was more like they were protecting her. So I think there are two kinds of balling. I've seen the killing kind of...
im only a 3rd year beekeeper, are you sure it is not a big drone cell? 100% sure?
2 queens in my nuc today! I keep a few nucs for a back up plan and decided to make all the queens today. I marked the queen and while the paint was drying I started to put the frame she was on back...
Things are difficult enough with an observation hive already. That would be like someone drowning and throwing them a lead life preserver!
when you first start your new hive in a TBH slam the frames tight against the side of the hive and a follower board tight. After they are stronger just move them down with one bee space gap, usually...
I won't make any comments on swarming or much on trapping. Read mike bushs book. I set aside about 40 liters worth of space in my top bar hive, treated 4 old brood comb with BT which is sold by a...
