Re: The Slovenian Beehive Arrives in the US

    D. Coates

Is the Slovenian Hive just a 3 frame observation hive then? They do not look alike.

Re: Think I Quit Feeding Too Soon

    UPDATE:

I restarted feeding and the bees took it readily. After a week or so had new eggs and larva. Now have worker and drone pupae, with hatching out daily.

I am convinced I quit feeding...

Re: What are fiber pot traps?

I was curious because I have had a trap with frames out for 2 years, this year with Swarm Commander, and not a sniff. Live is a semi-rural area with lots of trees and brush, but no known beekeepers...

    What are fiber pot traps?

I see recurring references to 'fiber pot traps', which seem to be very effective, but do not really know what they are. What do they look like, where can one get them, and why do they seem to work...

Wax moth larva, or is it something else?

Hive check today. Colony is fine, with new comb, lots of larvae, both worker and drone (no queen cells).

When I removed the bottom screen cover I found some frass, and 4-5 larvae and 3 pupae. ...

Re: Think I Quit Feeding Too Soon

I don't think they swarmed or superceded. Never saw any evidence of queen cells. I think she just took a break. They seem very active and about the same number of bees. Are all over the 1:1.

Think I Quit Feeding Too Soon

My hive made it through the winter ok, and I decided to feed with 1:1 and pollen sub in Jan. They took it well and the queen started laying quite well, bees making some new comb. Come early March...

Re: Oxalic Acid Fog? (not vaporization)

Thank you all. This was the kind of information I was looking for as one with no knowledge about the subject.

This is why BeeSource is so valuable.

Re: Results of Opening the Sides of the Broodnest

    Matt

I am trying your opening technique in one hive this year. So far I have put the second box on and moved 2 frames from the side of the broodnest in the bottom box to the center of the second...

    Oxalic Acid Fog? (not vaporization)

As a relatively new beek I am trying to decide how to treat for varroa. I understand OA is now approved as a treatment and am considering it. I have never used it and really know nothing about it,...

Significance, if any, of early drones?

I noticed today, for the first time, that drones are exiting my hive. The hive is active when the weather permits, and is producing new worker bees. I plan to conduct another inspection soon, but...

Re: Bee-Havior Change With The Time Of Year?

Sounds like the answer is either 'No', or 'We do not know'.

In any case, there were so many angry bees that the suit needs to be cleaned for sure!

Bee-Havior Change With The Time Of Year?

Does the behavior of a colony of bees change with the time of year? I just did an inspection of my (only) hive and they were very aggressive and unhappy. All of last year the colony was very mild,...
