  1. Re: Is $370 good price for 2 deeps full of bees and 2 honey supers?

Just my opinion but it sounds like zero honey in the supers so your just paying for the bees and used equipment. I would pass and for the money line up a few nucs in the spring. Unless you really...

    Re: Uncapping Punch

We used the Mann Lake one yesterday for the first time, very effective and quick. Seems to work better going from side to side rather then the length of the frame to get the edges and also to keep...

Re: How Do You Spell Honey?

Been real good in East Tennessee too. Several hives have given me 6 shallows so far with about 6 weeks to go.

    Re: SHB Help

Put the frames in a plastic bag and seal up. Place in the freezer for 24-48 hours and then remove from the plastic and place frames back in the hive. Bees will clean out the dead SHB larvae.

Big swarm, big mess, need advice

I picked up a swarm yesterday that had actually moved into some old hive bodies laying around. The lady that called thought it was neat for the first month to have them flying around until the amount...

    Re: Sumac Honey?

I think it's got a great taste. I've never had it pure but it's heavily mixed in with our summer honey and gives a good flavor.

    Re: Sideliner Product Liability Insurance?

Erie insurance has a product liability policy that starts around $300 and goes up depending on your annual sales for a 1 million/2 million aggregate policy.
  9. Re: Who just ordered a MAXANT 3100 powered extractor?? This guy, thats who!!

Maxant is top quality people and products. I got a 1400 extractor last year and Can't wait to use my new bottling tank this year.
  10. Taking honey from 2nd hive body mid-summer

I currently run double deeps and shallows for honey. Wondering if I can safely take the outer frame of honey from the top deep and replace with foundation. Would be doing this in July to allow for...

    Re: Honey Extractors

I think most times we run 15-20 minutes on ours, starting slow and building up to prevent blow outs and to drain them real good. So based on this, you could extract between 3 and 4 supers in an hour...

    Re: Rossman Apiaries

I wonder if they are a distributor for Dadant? I know they sell queens and packages, and make their own woodenware but other items I have noticed appear similar as well

Re: Should I split this hive?

I would think about doing a cut down split. Move the queen out into a new deep with some brood and nurse bees along with some honey and pollen and let her build up again. The original hive can now...
  15. Re: Over Wintered Laying Worker...Remedy?

I guess when i read over things and started thinking it made more sense to just move on. After all, I'm not killing the bees, I'm actually reinforcing existing hives and freeing up some drawn comb to...
  16. Re: Over Wintered Laying Worker...Remedy?

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm doing a few splits tomorrow so I think this hive will just get shaken out and I will use the drawn comb in the splits. The remaining bees can just find a new home...
  17. Over Wintered Laying Worker...Remedy?

Last fall I noticed I had a laying worker and thought I caught it quick enough to insert a queen and correct itself. The hive did not accept the queen and it was so late in the fall I didn't try and...

    Re: Market For Cut Comb?

MP is right, restaurants that sell fruit and cheese platters, especially farm to table types will buy from you if your offering is pretty. I also have quite a few customers that buy it in the plastic...

I got my wife an UltraBreeze suit and now her confidence is so high she is only using a veil. It is really helpful to have another pair of hands (pretty ones at that) in the bee yard. :)

I am betting that the person that joined Beesource yesterday and his first post sounds like an advertisement is really Michael Berry whose offices are in Johns Creek, Ga. and created this product.
