    Re: Foundation or not?

Let us know what happens, I don't think that they will build any faster on the foundation if they don't need (or want) more comb. Did you try to manage them moving down or feeding them to help draw...

    Re: Foundation or not?

When you inspect, if the comb is getting off line --> break and pinch the comb back onto the starter strip. Of course this has to be done weekly until everything is straight.

    Do you have any beeks...
  3. Re: Is there anything I should be doing now?

What I would do (doesn't mean it is the correct thing to do):

If they are bringing in pollen you should still have a queen. I would order fondant and feed it to over winter them. If they don't...

    Re: Foundation or not?

The drones serve a purpose, the bees wouldn't make them if they didn't. I don't even think about the number of drones, they will do their job and get kicked out when that job is done.

  5. Re: Does anyone have a good frame design?

I'm planning on building them so I don't have to worry about economies of scale.

Thanks for the other comments, the video and the other thread gave me some ideas
  6. Re: Does anyone have a good frame design?

Do you have a supplier selling them? I can buy lang frames cheap but the only ones I found for the Warre' hive are expensive.

    Re: 2-1 Sugar Syrup

These sugar water threads crack me up. I feel that everyone is over thinking it, you don't even need to use cups, ounces, pounds or anything else. Just one part sugar to one part water = 1:1 and...
  8. Does anyone have a good frame design?

I was going to buy some frames but they are very expensive compared to lang frames ( $3.75 ea. vs. $0.98 ea.). At $30.00 per box for frames it would more than double the cost of each of my hives. ...

    Re: Why Monitor???

Where I work almost everyone having a c-section is so they can "plan" the date.....Seems stupid to me. Sorry I know this is supposed to be about mites
  10. Re: Best technique to harvest honey from a Warrè?

    Bernhard,

Thanks for taking the time to do this, I don't have a mentor yet and seeing the actual pictures with explanation is a HUGE help! Right now you experienced beeks here on the forum are...
  11. Re: Warre Harvest : Not as easy as it sounds?

    Yep, thanks!
  12. Re: Best technique to harvest honey from a Warrè?

I have the book, I have read most of it but I need to finish it and go back over to work out the details. It just seems like everyone panics about swarms. I'm planning on splitting but I still don't...
  13. Re: Best technique to harvest honey from a Warrè?

    Bernhard,
Thanks for the info, I do have another question. If you are letting them get that full, do they tend to swarm more?

That is the way my bees have made their comb, nice and rounded...
  14. Re: Best technique to harvest honey from a Warrè?

You can make cages for the comb and use an extractor

Re: What to do if they don't survive?

I agree! When I first got my bees (swarm in late July), I was told so many times "good luck, it's to late to start a hive" that I figured I should be ready for it in the event it happens
  17. Re: Top Box almost full - should I move a comb or two to the bottom box?

    Thank you.

What to do if they don't survive?

My hive is doing quite well at the moment but I want to be prepared if they don't survive the winter. If they die out and there are no signs of disease, can I leave the built comb in the hive for...
  20. Re: Top Box almost full - should I move a comb or two to the bottom box?

I didn't break apart any of the bars in the top box to check for stores, the weather is getting cooler at night so I didn't want to chance chilling any brood that might be there. I did have one comb...
  21. Re: Top Box almost full - should I move a comb or two to the bottom box?

I've been relatively comfortable with them up to now, but when I saw how many there were I started thinking about adding another box. Here are some pics of the bottom box that I moved a frame of comb...
  22. Re: Top Box almost full - should I move a comb or two to the bottom box?

Checked today and they have filled half of the bottom box and covered with A LOT of bees. Shouldn't the be slowing down??
  23. What is the procedure for having two nucs in one box?

I've been reading about this and have looked at MB's site but I don't understand how to have two colonies in one box:scratch: I'm using 8 frame medium boxes and would like to utilize them for my...
