    Re: Lawnmower and bees...problem

Just to be clear, 20-30 bees were around the mower...only 2 or 3 actually stung me.

When working hives, they are usually OK, but I can end up with several stings on my gloves if I do not smoke...

    Lawnmower and bees...problem

When I started beekeeping, I placed my hives far away from where I NEED to mow. At least, I thought it was far enough. I occasionally don my beesuit and mow right up next to the hives to keep the...

  4. Re: How to extract single frame without extractor?

No offense intended, but I laughed hysterically at the video. Im sure this will work, but Im also sure of the outcome when I do it.
  5. Re: How to extract single frame without extractor?

Good info. What is the best way to get the bees off that one frame? Just shake them off and use a brush for any stragglers?
  6. How to extract single frame without extractor?

Its my second year of beekeeping and my hives are doing OK, but they probably won't make more than 1 or two supers of honey. However, I want to take a single frame now for personal use. My frames...
  7. Re: Second Year Bees....not much honey so far. Is this OK?

I would do this, but my concern is that they would store sugar water instead of nectar. Will they do that or use it purely for wax production?? Even if you pull syrup when the flow starts, how can...
  8. Re: Second Year Bees....not much honey so far. Is this OK?

I was hoping to keep a couple of supers worth on them each for the winter, but I was also hoping to extract at least a frame or two...just for us.
  9. Re: Second Year Bees....not much honey so far. Is this OK?

Brood nest is already drawn. The honey supers are what they are drawing now. They used a couple of supers as additional brood nest, which is not exactly what I wanted, but its fine. More bees.
  10. Second Year Bees....not much honey so far. Is this OK?

So, my one strong hive (I have two) seemed to consume the two boxes of honey they stored over the winter, but they have not really done much with the honey this year. When I inspected, what I...

Im going to transition to all mediums eventually but for now, my hives in Texas use a single deep hive body and I put on a medium super as needed for additional brood and honey. My bees are a year...
  16. Re: I want to attempt to attract/catch a swarm....

I have not heard much in the way of Africanized bees here. Im on the gulf coast.
